View Full Version : Re-aim Dish 500 and use instead of DTV multi-sat dish?

I currently have Dish Network with a Dish 500 dish(119 and 110), a Dish 500 dish with one dual lnb(at 61.5) and an SW64.

I know I can't use the Dish switch with DTV. I've been told that the LNB's are compatible.

Is it possible to re-aim the Dish 500 so that instead of picking up 110 and 119 it will see 101 and 110? If not, I will probably just pull the Dish off the mast and put the new DTV dish in its place.

Thanks

Don't bother. There is nothing to see at 110 from Directv anyway, unless you want HD Showtime. All HD programming will be moving to 110 from 119, so you want to re-aim both your dishes (1 at 101, 1 at 119) then get a 4x or 5x multiswitch and combine the signals so that it works like a Directv 18x24 dish.

A Dish500 makes a nice reflector to receive D* at 101 and BEV @91. Works great!

What is BEV and is it receivable with a DTV receiver?

BEV or Bell Express Vu is one of 2 canadian DBS providers, BEV uses hardware manufactured by Echostar. The Echostar 2800 and 501 are the same thing as an EV 2800 or 5100, respectivly but the 2 systems use different cards and serial#s so you cant interchange the recievers. To use BEV you have to subscribe via an address broker, if in the US and use a BEV reciever. BTW DirecTVs bird at 110 uses a special LNB and is not compatable with the standard E*/D*/BEV LNBs.

You can't use the switches, but if you have separate lnb's, the one on the "Y" connector, marked 119, must be replaced with a special lnb called the "sat c lnb." You would then connect the 101 and 110 lnbs together with a switch called a 22khz tone switch.

Because all sat c lnb's are rectangular base, you need to cut out the small boss in the plastic "Y" support of the Dish500, for the lnb to fit.
