View Full Version : Confused on New Recievers

I'm a little confused about the new recievers. My new home has a central distribution point in the basement for cable and phone. I called today and ordered Dish and they told me I should get one 522 and one 322 for 4 rooms. My questions are:

1. If two tv's are sharing the 522 does that mean you can't also be recording another show if both tv's are on? My whole goal was to be able to watch one show while recording another, like I do with my cable DVR now.

2. Won't they have to run a second cable from each place that has a box at it back to the distribution point to connect to the 2nd and 4th tv's? My house has blown in insulation in the walls and running anything through them is rough. Let alone going all the way from the second floor to the basement.

Thanks

Brian

It can be done as long as your home has all rg-6 cable properly rated for satellite reception, without having to run new wires to each location. The only place new wires might have to be ran to (provided the above statement is true, is to the basment. You need a minimum of two from the dish to properly feed two dual tuner receivers. You may be out some extra money for the parts, due to the fact that I don't know of any retailers as of yet that are getting reimbursed for the DPP technology. Although you should not be out more that 50-75.00 tops. The parts you need are of course the dish
1-DPP Twin
2-DPP Seperators
4-Good Quality Diplexors

I have posted a crude wiring scheme in the past which can be seen here...

just rename the splitter and call it your distribution unit in the basement.

What about the recording while watching another show? I would think you would need the two tuners in the 522 dedicated to one TV in order to do this.

Think of each line (2 lines) from the satellite bringing in one thing to watch or to record. With the 522 you have two places to watch and choose which of these two incoming tuners you want to watch. If you have a timer then one of the tuners will be locked on that to record. The other is open to watch. In our household we are often recording two current shows and watching a show we previously recorded. Very rarely do we watch live anymore.

Thanks for the answer. When you schedule the recordings will it automatically use the tuner that is not in use?

Much thanks to dnsc_installer for such a great reply on recommending to install a 522. This is what I asked for this past weekend in earlier threads. I will ask my workmate who installs satellites to get the parts I need to do the install.
