Here is my scenario, I'm watching a recorded program or one that is being recorded and I'm watching it at the same time. I pass out on the couch, show ends and the DRV screen pops up. It stays there and I'm extremely concerned about burn in on my RPTV. There have also been times that someone has thrown the guide up on the screen and walked out of the room. This scares me also. The other day someone threw up the menu and forgot about it and walked away. I don't know how long it was up there. Fortunately, there was no damage done. Yet! Can we please put a time limit of two minutes or so for all the screens that are capable of popping up? This would eliminate this and do away with the possibility of damaging the equipment. I burned a Mitsubishi years ago. It was not cheap to fix!

Could this time limit be optional? I have a DLP and am not a bit concerned about burn-in.

(I also have a $500 E* 34" and am not too worried there either).

I have a DLP like David_Levin but I think for those who don't, this is an excellent suggestion and I really hope that they implement it so to prevent, "Burn-In"

I'm glad to see a few more people chime in on this. Anyone else that would like to see this happen, please sign in here. Just to emphasise how important this is, last night that screen was up on my tube TV in the bedroom for over 45min. I normally don't watch recorded stuff after I turn in but last night I wanted to watch CSI and I didn't make it to the end before I passed out. I also forgot to set the sleep timer. When I woke up, the TV was still on and so was the DVR screen. My RPTV was not being used at the time, thank God. If it was, and this happened a few more times, I can guarantee you it would start showing signs of burn in.

I also agree that the menu/PVR screens should time out after a few minutes. Also any items that display on a paused screen should after a few minutes be replaced with a sceen saver type bouncing "paused' logo. ( Ican't believe I just said that I HATE screen savers)

Good idea. Of course not as high a priority as actually making this machine work as designed .
