I have found it's faster to just surf the channels instead of watching the MIX channels and going thur the hassle of getting the audio for each channel.

What's the reasoning behind adding these channels instead of new channels with new content?

The only thing I could see it to be interesting for is elections... that's about it...

Nope, I don't watch them and probably never will. Much easier to check the on-screen guide for what is on.

My wife and I don't watch either. I removed the channels from our channel list.

Those channels are wasted bandwidth that could be better used in giving us four or five more SD channels.

Well they are pretty useless in their current state. They are for the new DirecTV Active interactive service at which point they will have some functionality. If you don't have that service then they don't have much of a point.

Directv cancelled Trio because they said there wasn't much interest... Will they cancel these channels?

Why would anyone take the risk of buying the new receivers for the interactive services.... When I signed up a few years back, the satellite dealer gave me the new interactive receiver because of the wink junk.... Well it went bye bye..... So who knows how long this will last....

I just don't see the big deal with weather since the internet has grown.....

Just my thoughts....

I watch the news mix channel when I want to see at a glance what the news channels are covering. For instance, when Martha Stewart was being released from prison, I could tell who was covering the release with live reporters and switch the audio to the different channels when I saw someone on another channel I wanted to hear.

The sports mix channel is useless in its current state, because most of the channels are really "sports" related. Outdoor Life doesn't really relate to sports watching like ESPN. It would be great if they put up some of the Fox Sports Nets so you could see several games at once, but with blackouts and non-sports pack subscribers I see how it couldn't happen.

But, I do often turn on the news mix instead of going to each of the channels to see what they are doing.

Now what WOULD be cool is if they did a mix channel of Mega March Madness and you watched it on a 70"+ TV... that way you could at least see a 15"-20" view of each game...

Nope, I don't watch them. Big waste of bandwith in my opinion.

About as useful as the TV Guide channel, which I deleted from my favorites list shortly after it was added.

That is proposed future use. See what they want to do with NFL Sunday Ticket mix channel next fall.

Here's the thing some of you don't get. *ALL* future receivers, including DVR's, from DirecTV will have the interactive features built in. So within a year it won't be something special you need to buy or pay a premium for. It will just be there as part of your 3 room free install deal.

See, News Corp realizes just as you do that not many people will pay extra for interactive features. So they will do what they did with Sky TV and that is make it default and come with every receiver. So then in future seasons of American Idol you can vote with your remote.

Interactive has never taken off in the U.S., but DirecTV is going to try. They will be most successfull by making it a default option that everyone gets and can try out at no cost. Wether it works or not we'll know in 2-3 years.

I watched them some until the novelty wore off. Now I will only occasionally tune to the NewsMix channel if there is breaking news. It's good to be able to see at a glance how each channel is covering a story and what video coverage they have. Be a good source when we start bombing Iran.

That's what I was going to say since I have done the identical thing.

TV Guide channel is another channel that needs to go bye bye in my opinion.

Nope.

If they added NWI and took off FauxNews, then I might.

How do you change the audio on the Mix channels using the R10? Surely there is a better way than choosing an alternate audio.

If that's the only way, these Mix channels are a joke!

We had to have one of our receivers replaced the other day. They replaced an RCA430 with an RCA435. Some improvements, but still no Active.

The receiver came with a new remote, which appears to be a standard universal remote for all DirecTV receivers. You enter a code for the receiver model. The new remote has a yellow button which changes the audio on the Mix Channels. I have an old universal remote which will do it, but I didn't know there was a DirecTV supplied remote with that function. However, the new remote doesn't have a fetch button, which I really need, so I will continue to use the remote from the old RCA. It still takes only three key presses to change the audio and I rarely watch the Mix channels anyway.

Without Active receivers they are not very functional. My wife used to watch movies on TRIO and that was a better use of bandwidth, than Mix Channels. They could add some of the other HBO, Cinemax, Stars or Showtime movie channels that E* offers, that D* doesn't.

If I'm watching one of the channels, I'll turn to the mix at commercial breaks to watch something until my show comes back on. I also like to see if some of them are showing the same thing at once (like a Cubs game that was on ESPN and WGN earlier this week).

I use the News MIX regularly. I like to have a glance of what is going on and to quickly listen to one of the while sneaking around other topics in the other news channel.

I like it now with the active set up, its easier to toggle around and here the audio and it shows you the shows title at the top of the box.

The other night I was surprised to see ABC from NY up on the sports mix.
