View Full Version : 522 wiped memory
Turned on my 522 this morning and got an error message my hard drive needed to be cleaned. It cleane it wiped out everything timers and recorded programs I now have a virgin 522. What a piece of sh*t and DISH Notwerk is basing all future dual tuner DVRs on this receiver. Richz has a post on the 721 locking up and doing this so it seems like this is very common to DISH DVRs.
Boba,
If you feel that way, WHY do you continue to sell DISH products? It seems to me that you would be MUCH better off selling something that you can really believe in.
I really can't understand any type of dealer that does business like that (constantly complains about what he is selling). I recently ran into that when looking at new cars and it was a real turn off (I'll never buy ANYTHING from that dealer).
There have been plenty of messages on the various forums stating do NOT clean the disk until you've watched your recordings because you will lose them.

It would be like showing the difference between a YUGO and a Lexus.

I only had 5 or six programs stored but why with so little on the hard drive would it need to be cleaned? POORLY written software is the only reason.

It's likely that the HDD took a transient read error, and the poorly written software decided it needed to be fixed.
If they'd have done it right, ... well, they didn't and they won't.

Boba,
I have both DISH and DirecTV (all DVRs) and DISH isn't nearly as bad as you say and DirecTV TiVos aren't as good as they should be (or as great as you say they are).
Given your contempt for DISH, I really don't think you should be a DISH dealer and you sure aren't being stright with the people that come to this board looking for HONEST information.
I think you ARE justified complaining when your DISH receiver loses programs but my TiVo has done that twice so it happens with both vendors. That is just where the technology is today. Maybe, in three or five years DVRs will be more reliable but, for now, they aren't as reliable as they should be.

Tivo is terrible. I had it and had nothing but problems with it. It would keep going black and white and pausing for a second. Also the guide was slower than molasis.
