View Full Version : pronto learning from 921
Recently, someone near my home has taken control of my 921!!! If i switch codes, then everything is fine. My big problem is now my pronto remote doesn't work. I previously owned a 721 (which I sold) so when my 921 arrived, i didn't have to reprogram my pronto. I have access to a remote from a 510, will the codes from that work?
Or should I take my computer out next to the 921 so I can "learn" from the 921?
Also - "learning" from the 921 - am I able to learn all buttons? Or does it leave some out?
Thanks to all in advance :gott:

I used my 510 to program my Pronto. You will not have the PIP and one other that I can't remember, but everything else works.

just unscrew the UHF antenna in the back of your 921! then the neighbor will have to be in your living room to control your 921!!!

I need the uhf because i run the 921 on the TV in my bedroom
Has anyone tried using a attenuator like described in the manual????
Can't you switch RF channels on the 921?

yes but then the ir codes will need to be changed as well.

You may want to find out which neighbor has the new toy. There is probably a decent TV to go with it. New friends with technology are always good to have.
Also, your neighbor will probably call Dish Tech Support pretty quickly when you two get into remote wars. You know what's going on, but the neighbor may be clueless.

And maybe you can get the neighbor to switch codes - it may not matter in his setup.

You can use the "teach remote" function in the diagnostic page of the installation menu. Change the UHF address to a clean one. Get in the teach remote mode. Every button that you hit on the remote control will blast corresponding IR out of the blaster on teh front of the unit. You can use this blast to overwrite the codes on your pronto.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Just take a walk through the neighborhood ordering PPV events :goodandba
Well ok - if you can see who has the dish you can ask them nicely to change it. But aren't us 921 owners geeks at heart? Might as well use the teach remote function and reprogram.
I ended up using the "teach remote" featue - took me an hour, problem solved. Still have no idea who has the new dish. I took a walk, didn't see any dishes, has anyone had their 921 act like it was being controlled from somewhere else?

This is quite a common problem. When my neighbor had Dish installed I was at home and watched my TV while the installer was running through the setup.
Then I started playing with it a little, must have driven him crazy for a short time but he wised up and set his remote to another code and we have been happy ever since.
