Rumor has it that DTV is making changes for New Customer's to pre-qualify or a type of Pre-Approval Application being done at time of sale. Will be done via secured web site. Retailers will be able to know right away if a person needs to pay anything or be able to select different type of promotions that will best suit the customer.I don't know all the details but,
Please if anybody knows more info on this matter, please post it.

March 29 Directv is starting it's new credit approval policy. For those who don't meet the minimum level they will have a DISH Free For All type of promotion where the credit challenged will pay $150 upfront for basic equipment and receive a monthly credit until the equipment is free.

$150 for standard receivers, 15 $10 monthly credits so long as the account is kept in good standing. $200 for DVR or HD installs with 20 credits.

Not only are the Retailers going to be able to run the credit check, but if the cust does not meet the credit requirements, it has become more difficult to get set up than before. As itr stands now, if you have poor credit, or lack of, you can simply pay $50.00 off your credit card or out of your checking account( no credit card/ NP, go buy pre paid mastercard at your local pharmacy-- it will work) and you'll get service. But as of March 28th, if your credit is less than favorable your start up cost begins at, at least $150.00. Per my understanding, this is for a single receiver, additionals extra $50.00 , but don't quote me on this just yet. So for us retailers it will make it increasingly harder to generates sales. Yeah Yeah -- POOR US!

Dish Network are you listening? $10 a month in credits vs. your newly reduced $5 a month in credits. A DVR for only $50 more that still gets reimbursed.

Will they require a credit card while doing that credit check? If not then there is another advantage that they will have over Dish Network.

Actually, you still have to pay for the. The $200 is a deposit which is refunded back, so:

3 room system w/ 1 TiVo - $99 + tax
$200 deposit - $200

$10 off bill for 20 months. You still have to pay for the TiVo up front.

If the customer is a good paying customer for 15 or 20 months they will get credits on their bill but they won't get it back if they don't pay on time. :)

Call it what you will, it is still a deposit. AND, it does not include the $99 for a TiVo, $299 for an HD receiver, or $999 for an HD-TiVo. These are in addition to the "deposit". You don't get those hardware costs back.
