I just got a 921  and connected it to the 2 connections I had for my 721. Now, I want to put my 721 where my 508 receiver is located. My setup will be 1 921, 1 721, and 2 508s. I have a Switch DP34 Quad and don't have another hookup on my switch available for another line. I already have one line coming straight from the satellite itself. I think I need a new switch. Any ideas on which switch (cheapest price) or how to run another line for my 721?

Thanks

Just add another DP34 and Cascade it to the first DP34, in-turn it adds another four outputs to your setup.. Of course you still must run the other line to the 721 because the DPP44 and separator is not an option with the 721 until a software upgrade comes down next month.. (expected)..

If you need just five ports, the cheapest option is to attach a DP21 to two additional switch connections on the DP34.

not if he has all 119 110 and has a wing satelite dish at 148 or 61.5

If you have another line coming from the dish, do you have a DP Twin or DP Quad at the dish? If it's a quad, then you can use that line unless you have a need for all 3 sats on the DP34. Also keep in mind that the 921 and the 721 switch matrixes MUST match, so if you use a DP21 on the pass thrus of the DP34 or the Quad if that is what you have, that line must go to the 508.

I don't know where you get your information, but I have been using a DPP44 and separator with my 721 for several months as have many other posters on this forum.

I stand corrected.. Thanks.. I did know the DPP44 worked with the separator and 721.. :nono2: Don't know what I was thinking at the time.. The TWIN DPP and separator still have not been added to the 721 software.. which is expected in the next release.. Thanks again for the correction..

I understood jmf8 to have a need for 6 inputs.. with the 2 - 508's.. and if he indeed has a DP QUAD at the Dish.. using the DP34 he already has.. should be enough to get connected the the four receivers.. I guess he just needs to run a second line to the 721..

Ah.....2 508s. Well, then his best bet would be another DP34. Misread it.

Thanks for all your help. I bought a DP34 off ebay. Hopefully, the install will be easy. I will let you know how it goes.

I need some more help. I mounted my used dp34 switch next to my existing switch and connected two cables from the existing switch to the new switch (i only have 2 cables coming from my dish to my existing switch). Then, I ran two new lines from my new switch to my 721 (where my old 508 used to be). I can't get both tuners to work. I can only get one tuner to work at a time. I switch the cables from tuner 1 to tuner 2 and can only get one of the tuners to work at a time (the tuner that work switches when I switch the cable). I put the 2 new cables onto the existing switch and I can only get one tuner to work. The second tuner only gets 55-56 range (I didn't get any range from the new switch) one the dish point screen. I have one line that comes from my satellite that goes directly to a receiver and is not connected to the switch. Is that causing any problems? I also left the cable that used to run my old 508 connected to the switch so that I have 3 inputs in that room but only use two of them on the 721. Could that be the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First, I would swap out your original DP34 for the new one and see if everything works fine on the 921. If it does, then I would try running the 721 off the first DP34, and then run the 508 off the second DP34. Since you didn't specify, what ports are you connecting to the 721? E* has recommended either ports 1/2 or 3/4 for the 721. Don't mix and match them. Good luck.

Well. I got the 721 to work. I connected the old input (from the 508) and the new input that works and I got the 721 to work. The two inputs are from two different switches. Does that matter?

Thanks

It might - but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Just remember your configuration.

Just don't cuss the receiver if you start having problems with it. It will probably be traced back to using seperate switches. Technically it shouldn't matter so long as it has the same switch matrix on both tuners.
