Mark why did you close my thread?

When I was in the market for an HD-DVR my local Dish rep made the statement that the 921 would record everything I want "just like the TIVO does".

I, like most other consumers, take what the dealer tells me as the truth. I don't come to "Charlie chats" (I don't even know what that is) and I don't have time to read the tech specs on every DVR on the market. So when an authorized dealer says the 921 behaves exactly like the HD Tivo behaves, I expect NBR. If this isn't something the authorized dealers should be saying, then Dish needs to work on their training program, because that's what I was told.

Now, I'm past 30 days on my contract and this thing is not performing at 1/2 the level of my old Tivo system. So the answer I get here is to lose an additional $250-400 to go back to DirecTV? That's unacceptable.

My guess is Mark answered your question and closed the thread to avoid it rat holing into a 921 bash thread.

I closed your thread because I am getting very sick of the Dish/Eldon bashing that's been happening around here for the last couple of months, and I'm going to put a stop to it.

It's spelled out very clearly in the posting rules of the 921 forum:
The following rules will still apply: All Dish Network / Eldon / Programmer / Engineer bashing will not be tolerated in this forum. All posts that fall into this category will either get moved into the general forums or deleted by the DBSTalk staff. The Official DBSTalk 921 Support Forum is not a free-speaking forum like the rest of DBSTalk. This is not the forum to ask where to get a 921, when the price is going to drop, discussing how much better or worse the HDTivo is, current promotions, or anything along those lines. There are other forums here at DBSTalk and at other sites where those discussions are appropriate.

While your original post didn't devolve into the standard bash-fest, the rest of the posts in the thread very quickly did. The bottom line is that you didn't do enough research when you were shopping for your HD DVR. If you had, you would have discovered that the 921 doesn't have NBR, and most likely never will. And the problem is that most Dish dealers never even saw one, much less knew exactly how they operate. If that means that you got "suckered" into the 921 by your dealer, then I'm very sorry to hear that. If I were you, though, I'd be pissed at your dealer - he's the one you should be taking this up with. They are independent from Dish, you know...

If you and your dealer can't come to a resolution, then you should take it up with the exective level CSRs at ceo@echostar.com - maybe they can do something for you. The bottom line, though, is that the 921 will never be what the HDTivo is.
