VHSC:(:(:( I really really want a MiniDV camera. Heck, even Hi8 would be a huge step up!

I have an old Panny VHS-C camcorder that and a wonderful new Sony Digital8 Handycam, very nice piece of digial equiptment for $700. 2.5" flip out LCD, 15X optical, takes 1MP still images on a Memory Stick, Svideo, USB and Firewire connections, digital image stablization. The only downside is between the flip on screen, digital stabilization and the light the battary wears down quick. But I love the LIon battary, sure beats nickle hydrate.

Cool! I'd really really really like a MiniDV camera (or a Digital8, but I think Digital8 it starting to die as a format as it really serves no purpose, not that it's bad, but it's not needed). But I can't afford it:(:(:(

I forgot about MicroDV but whats DVD-RAM have to do with it? Are there camcorders that burn the footage on DVDs?

Yes. For an example, see http://www.hitachi.com/tv/browse/camcorders/dvd/dzmv200a.shtml

would be nice if it were DVD-RW....

Also, I would be concerned withlaser alignment if you dropped the thing.

Micro MV like DVD-Ram records in the MPEG 2 format instead of the DV format. DVD-RAM is only compatable with DVD-RAM and would have to be removed from its caddy (4 screws) to play back in a DVD-RAM player. Micro MV is a Sony device and the tape is abuot 1/2 the size of a DVC tape.
