What transponder/spotbeam is mtv/ foodnetwork, etc on ?

Recently i had dish set me up (added) a dp34 (also changed from legacy quad to dp twins and a dp dual for 148) and now i see pixelation on my 510. When i have it set to record shows it does, but i stops now and then with a "signal loss" message and a few seconds of hte show is missing. I looked at the sat signal and noticed that spotbeam 10 on sat 110 is only 75, spotbeam 8 is only 71. some other spotbeams like 1 are at 121 strength. Should i play with the dish a little to get spotbeam 8 or 10 higher? is that why is cutting out? Signal on sat 119 at transponders 10 is 95, trans 11 is 89, and transponder 12 is 93. What do you guys think?

Thanks
Jon

PS i dont see anything weird on the 921 (didnt check signal strength yet) is it maybe the port that the 510 is on on the dp34??

Take a look at www.dishchannelchart.com and see what spot beam your locals are on. If they are on any of the mentioned spot beams then you may wish to peak your dish. Otherwise, there is another reason for the problem with your receiver.

I'd say check your cable connections again to make sure they are firmly handtight - I'm getting all but spotbeam transponders at 110 and above on my 510 (Legacy LNBs with SW21). I had a "acquiring signal" problem that was traced to this...

i can do that(check cables to make sure their tight, pretty sure they are) . I looked at the chart and i see that some transponders that i have about 80 signal are the ones i care about. What is the lowest number that leave some room for error? (of course the higher the better) is 80 acceptable to keep signal with minimal interference or should i shoot for 90 to be safer?

IE will 80 cause problems that say 90 would not?

Jon

PS thanks tony, what a cool link

Keep in mind that when changing from legacy to DP, that DP requires a better cable. If you 510 is ran with RG59, then that can be the problem. I have ran across this many times lately. People thing that they need to upgrade to DP, when legacy is just as good a system and been in use a whole lot longer. Unless you have a need for more tuners, or the advantage of running a Dual tuner with 1 wire ala DP+, staying with legacy is totally ok.

You never did post the signal on the 921(keep in mind that it only goes to 100, not 125). And 80 will be ok, excpet during heavy cloud cover. E* recommends 100+ on all sats( and 80+ on the 721/921 series).
