I just noticed the 942 doesn't have the cooling fan (at least that I can see) like the 921 did. What have they done that they don't need the fan, it still has a hot HD installed, are we going to see overheating problems like those of us that owned Replays saw?

Out of curiousity, Sundance, you have spent half your posts here bashing the 921 and Dish in general, why would you go and buy a 942?

The 942 does have a fan - a single fan on the bottom, under the hard disk. It blows upward, directly on the hard disk. The air then travels across the main board and power supply where it exits on the right side of the unit. The fan is extremely quiet. It's even mounted with rubber shock mounts. There is also a temperature sensor near the hard disk and the unit will display a warning if it gets too hot. I'm not sure if it has a variable speed fan or not.

He's probably looking for something else to complain about. Why not just close this thread since it has no point and the answer was readily available elsewhere..............
