View Full Version : Six Alternates not enough on Friday
1. Royals
2. Cubs
3. Orioles
4. Brewers
5. Pacers
6. Grizzlies
Need another for the Warriors on FSN Bay Area Plus.
Well the best bet is the Cubs/Pirates game starts at 7:05 Eastern and the Warriors game starts at 10:30 Eastern. The Baltimore/NY Yankees game starts at 7:35 Eastern but it always takes the Yankees 4 hours to play 9 innings. Evry other game starts after 8pm.
Forcast is sunny with a high of 61.
Dish WAKE UP HELLO!!!
They will not schedule them that close together on the same alternate.

How come they didnt need so mant sports alternates last year?? When the NHL was in session.
They had about the same amount of alternate channels at this time last year. The Grizzlies are a new addition. In some cases the NHL has been replaced by other programming, some of it is College Baseball and College Softball which are no less important. But the Bulls and Athletics are the only ones affecting the Friday schedule. The rest would be on alternates either way.
Never content with the alts eh? :)
They should do what DirecTV does and just have dedicated alts for each RSN that has multiple teams in each league. That way you'd know exactly where to find the alternate games.
Well, DirecTV has been having to add some as well. :)

They will not schedule them that close together on the same alternate.Have they switched an ALT during the day? It seems that they like to pick a RSN in the morning and leave it all day. I suppose it would be easier if the two RSNs involved were on the same transponder (since there is a PID switch at the beginning and end of all ALT programs anyways). But the sports would have to be separated enough to avoid all overlap.
Hmmm ... I wonder if the RSN's send a code to tell Dish when the programs are done? The couple ALT feeds I've watched to the end cut right at the precise moment the RSN went on to other content. I havn't watched the beginning transition but I expect that is easier as it is done on a clock.

Alts 1-4 do not do a PID switch. They are dedicated channels. The switching is done in the A/V switchmatrix ahead of the Encoder.
There are a few situations which allow more than one event on an Alt, but the only event remotely possible on friday is the Cubs game and they have learned to allow a lot of extra time for Baseball with the possibility of an extra innings situation.

How do they do the Nets games on the nba package that are carried by yes? Do they have yes uplinked and hidden somewhere or is it just uplinked for the nets games?
YES for the Nets comes from a utility channel on 110w which may be used for other things at other times. There seems to be 8 of these utility channels.

Missing Friday 4/15 MLB Alts:
WXPX Devil Rays
KSTW Mariners @ WCIU White Sox
KDFI Rangers
KCAL Angels
KTVU Giants
KCOP Dodgers
some of these feeds were always an alternative the past couple of seasons, now
they've been totally elimated so far into the 05 season, both Dish & Directv are
doing the same in bypassing what was always shown in the past.

Someone over at DBSForums received an email about the Warriors game and was told "Sorry, we can't put the game up because we don't have the space or time."

Dumb queston!! Why doesnt E* use the "empty" sports pay-per-view slots instead of creating "alternate" channels?

KSTW Mariners on FSN Northwest Portland Alternate is the only one of the above which has been on an Alternate. The others have not and will not be on an alternate feed.
The FSN Northwest Alternate is scheduled in MLB Extra Innings tonight.
DirecTV has this alternate listed. Dish Network does not, due to the lack of sufficient alternate channels.
