I recently "moved" to fairfield county CT. In order to get NYC locals and HD feeds.. I am in CT , about 20 miles away from fairfield county. Now I have learned that Directv will be changing out receivers and Dishes for us in the top 12.. Now I am in the #1 DMA , so how can I have directv come out and change everything when I am not really there?
VERY GOOD QUESTION!!! Now where would you like to move so you can continue receiving after the transition to MPEG4? The nice thing is you should have several months to answer this question.

Dude. You might be in big trouble. Not sure on this one but D* dosen't take kindly to being swindled. They have a reputation of being sue happy with pirates but since you're not outright stealing signal without paying I don't know. I'd keep paying my bill and don't talk to them if they call. It'll be cool if you could tell them your schedulle and mail/fedex/ups service is really fouled up and can you just pick everything up from somewhere or have it shipped to a po box and you'll install it yourself.

As long as you did NOT change your billing address so your bills and any new receivers would go to your home you should be fine. On these moves ALWAYS ALWAYS just change your service address but tell them you wish to maintain your billing address as is (summerhouse..cabin etc) but whatever they wont question it whatsoever. I've done a few "moves" myself back and forth to get the NY/LA locals and never had trouble and neither should you.
They're not going to just mail out all the new equipment, like everything it will have to include the standard 1yr commitment and installation.

Ok, I feel better , actually I have the bill going to a PO box.. and a "Local" phone number for the receiver to call in on "VoiP"
Right, but an installer will need to come out of you intend to get the new HD LiL in channels.
Oh btw, as soon as DirecTV offers HD Locals to your 'moved to' area, you will lose national HD locals.
1- You could buy the new sat box and dish online and install yourself or hire someone to do it.
Aren't the new HD locals going to be on spotbeams,so you must be in the spotbeam range.
2- Move back and wait
3- Move to another area

Yes, but my "MOVED" area is fairfield CT which is the New York City DMA.. I dont think they will be moving those channels off of Mpeg2 anytime soon.

If an area is in the NY DMA it isn't going to change, they will be converted to MPEG4. Everyone in that DMA and every other that D* provides HD locals will lose access to the MPEG2 feeds when that happens.
