What the crap?!? When I signed up for DishHD, I was told it was 10 bucks and there were supposed to be more channels coming soon. Now that soon has arrive, they want me to pay more? Sure, they now have more HD channels, but what good is the HD package if it doesn't include all the HD channels? This sucks! I already have every channel they offer with three receivers, coughing up over 100 bucks monthly. I'm not paying more for cheesy channels that Voom offered as it's base package. However, if they could get me some Fox Sports in HD, or some more movie channels... something worth the money, then I'd reconsider.
What I am doing is looking at DirecTV now. At least they can carry they Mavericks game without the video and audio getting screwed up every 3 minutes.

Moved to a more appropriate forum.
Well you don't have to purchase the additional VOOM channels they are an option as I understand it. I am not sure about the logic behind the fact of not caring if they charged extra for Fox Sports HD but you so upset about the extra 5 bucks for Dish that you are looking towards switching to DirecTV.
I don't recall ever reading a statement that the HDPak would include all future HD channels. Mind pointing me to where this is because I am sure a lot of people would love to know so that they could use it to have the $5 fee waived.

Yes, please post the link to where it says that all future HD will be included in the price of the HD pack. I want to get the Voom channels at no extra charge too.

What's up with all of these people crying about $5/mth for 10 more HD channels?
If you think they aren't worth $5/mth, don't buy them. If you want more HD, pay $5/mth. Seems like a pretty simple solution to me.
By the way, is there anyone here who think that Dish Network is magically getting these "Rainbow 1" channels for free? E* pays for them, E*'s goal is to make money, You want them, You pay for them. Very simple formula.
Looks like HDAT5 and HDAT15 to me. Maybe someday they will become HDAT6 and HDAT16 at no extra charge, but it is not a certainty.

I dont know about that. Im used to being pampered by all of my service providers. phone, electric, gas cable, etc... So i think that Dish should fall in line.
What part of the 20% gas price increase is pampering?

What part of the problem is that you have to buy the HD pack to get the VOOM pack. It would be nice if they were separate like HBO/SHO.
Granted, it would be nice. Interesting that the price of HBO and Showtime are also in the $15 range each. Can you get them without some additional access fee or package?

I agree. They cried & cried for more HD and now some don't to pay. Dish paid millions for this and must please shareholders. Quit whinning!

Actually a good point to bring up next time someone says "I want to pick my channels and only pay for what I watch"... since we have folks who don't want to pay $5 for the new channels... Here's an example of Dish actually giving us a choice to buy or not buy the new additions, and still there's reason for complaint.
For the record... I don't mind paying a reasonable price... and I feel like $5 is a reasonable price for these 10 channels. That's about 50 cents per channel, so even if I don't watch all of them all of the time, there ought to be enough new stuff to keep me busy for a while to be worth $5 a month.

Sounds like you found the solution to your problem. DON'T BUY THEM!!!
I'm happy to pay $5 extra for 10 channels. Sounds like a bargain to me.
BTW, did Voom offer their service for free? Sounds like you think they did. Time to wake up to the reality of life and business and the reality that Charlie doesn't run Dish just to have a good time. He wants to make money. You should protest this and drop all your channels. That'll teach Charlie a lesson :nono2:

And don't forget, they include the audio-only HD channels in the total :D

Anyway, back to the original topic ...
I think of Voom as a separate offering - like HBO, Showime, etc. so the extra $5 is ok, I just wish Charlie would put the whole Voom package up!

The Rave channel is worth $5.00 bucks by itself.

$5 for 10 channels seems very reasonable, like someone said above. I do think they need to add at least 1 or 2 channels to the regular HD pack to make it worth the $10 though (inhd 1 and 2 would be perfect). Hopefully dish does add a couple of channels down the road to HD pack, but tough to complain about the addition of 10 voom channels for only $5 a month.

Maybe Charlie will add 10 HD Shopping channels and call them HDAT16 and HDAT26.

It would be nice to have the INHD channels, but they are cable only and are advertised as such. :(

EXACTLY. It is the cost of two movie rentals per month. I figure if I watch two movies on these ten channels in a month I am ahead of the game. I'm ecstatic. Remember, they need 6X the bandwidth of SD channels for this. It is still an "enthusiast" hobby and has not hit the mainstream yet. Kudos to E* for taking a step in that direction.
One thing is for certain. For the last two years we have had NOTHING but equipment problems to argue about. It's nice to have some blockbuster programming adds for a change. I was surfing the 10 channels last night. The Matt Helm film was cool, and there are movies I have not seen on other networks recently. A few of the channels are Discovery HD type clones with the Gallery Channel being interesting (I never saw 1000 year old tapestries in that detail on a TV set... amazing). GuyTV could be interesting...... And the Rave channel is filled with HD concerts that are actually worth watching. I've watched the HD news channel more than I thought I would (those weather maps are awe inspiring in their detail)
Voomers, I'm sorry I couldn't support Dolan's distribution scheme as they didn't have a PVR and I didn't have room in my receiver for another Video Input. But now that I can get to the content WITHIN Dish Network's receivers, I'm all over it....... Charlie Dolan's vision may just live on after all, but in a different form.........

My only "complaint" right now is the inaccuracy of the guides on some of the channels... as I find myself missing movies I would have watched because the guide said something else was on. Happened once with a concert on Rave too, but mostly on Guy and Majestic.
Otherwise I've had pretty much the same reaction as you... found myself stopping and watching several things I didn't think I would... and I thought I was the only one impressed by the maps during the weather sequences on HD News! Those are pretty cool.

I've gone on record all over DBSTalk as saying I thought Voom was both ahead and behind the times... Ahead in that not enough people were ready to buy that much HD at the prices they were offering as a startup service... and behind in terms of how they managed/advertised it from the beginning.
It is amazing that for $5 and maybe slightly more by the time we have all 21 next year, a bigger company can give us all the same stuff that Voom had to charge $40 as a unique provider. IF they could have provided more of the standard stuff from the beginning and had a cheaper initial entry point... they might have stood a chance!

You could subscribe to cable and get InHD.
You Dish people have to understand that us VOOMers are spoiled. I had to down grade from 24 HD channels to 15 (incl. Dishs HD pk no pitty partys please.) I had a 2 room system that I was paying $62. a month for and getting alot of HD. I'll end up paying a little more with Dish. Are they worth the extra $5., you bet it is. I am getting the HD pack for 6 months free, incl. the VOOM channels. Anyway I'm "VOOMing" again and we are happy campers!! I do have a question for you tho. Why can't Dish move there HD channels over to 61.5. I watched about 1 min of HDNET and all I saw was alot of motion artifacts.

Sorry to tell you, but the $5.00 for Voom is not included in the 6 months free. You will receive your $9.99 HD package free for 6 months if you sign up before July 31st, but you still pay for the Voom.

Hello all,
I'm new here but I just want to say to all of you that are complaining to remember that NOT ALL OF US CAN RECEIVE THESE CHANNELS YET! I will gladly pay $5 for more HD content. I will be getting my new HDTV soon, and will really appreciate channel surfing in HD with these new channels when they become available in my area. :crying:

It makes me sick that people are bitching about the $5 cost of the voom channels that I would gladly pay at least $5 for but I can not receive.

I don't have a problem paying extra for Voom channels - I'm actually pretty excited to have them on the menu, especially since it's only $5... My problem is with the fact that in order to even consider it, we first have to shell out $10 for the (IMO) mostly worthless HDpak.

Of all the various complaints I have seen in recent discussions... this one is the most valid, in my opinion. I happen to want both and am ok with buying both for the moment... but I can certainly see that since they are 2 separate packs of channels and aren't even on the same satellite right now... I can understand if someone only wanted the Voom pack and not the other pack.
I bet it never happens, but I understand folks who wish they could.

HDNet and ESPN HD are pretty good actually. Discovery HD has some of the best looking HD programming, although it IS PBS-esque content which may turn off some.
I had missed Smallville the first time around (it was on against Enterprise in my one-tuner PVR days so I missed getting hooked on it). But now I'm glad I did as Smallville looks gorgeous in HD. Two new episodes (to me at least) every Thursday is a trip. My only problem is that they are almost caught up to the new season. I don't know if they will start into the current season or whether they have to wait until the summer or fall to be able to show the latest season......
