My 501 suffered massive data corruption. All of a sudden we lost about 70% of our recorded shows, some protected. The rest were all corrupted, when we started to play it would just hang. Had to delete the rest.
But all NEW shows are recording and playing just fine... anyone have this happen? Is my DVR getting ready to go? (its only my 3rd 501 so its about time :) )
I had the same thing happen to me I have a 501 thats about 3 years old.
Then the other day my wife turns the thing on and all but 3 of the recorded shows are gone. Everything else works great we've never had any problems from our 501 till now,I hope this is not the tip of the iceberg of things to come.

I would try internal diagnostics DST-1 and DST-2 first, then I would re-init it for be sure the disk is OK.

I had a 501 problem last week. My copy of Gray's Anatomy got corrupted (I'd watched it once before) so that upon playback it looked as if it were studdering slowly ahead, skipping forward in obvious jerks. Audio was gone as well.
I've seen this a few times before, but its not a common problem that hits often.
My usual issue is a screen freeze, where the screen just shows black or is frozen on a certain frame of something I was just viewing. A reboot fixes this.
