View Full Version : What else is needed for 942?
I currently have one Dish with a quad LNB that is pointed to 110 West according to my 510. I don't have any HD receivers at the moment. My questions are, 1) if I get the 942, do I have to subscribe to the HD pack or can I use it for HD locals only? and 2) if I do want to subcribe to the HD pack, will I need any more equipment or a Dish pointed to another location? I'm a little new to the technical aspects of the Dish, so please bear with me if I'm not using the correct terminoligy.
Thanks in Advance,
Brad

If you don't have a Dish 500 for both 119, and 110, you may not get all the HD pack, but I am not sure. If that is a Legacy LNB, your going to need two cables from that Quad, one for each tuner.

If you have a Quad LNB, you probably have a Dish 500 pointed at both 119 and 110. Look at the "check switch" screen on your existing receiver. There will be some info there on what kind of switch you may have and if you have a Dish 500.
In answer to your questions.
1) If you buy a 942, you don't have to subscribe to the HD Pack. If you decide to lease one, you will probably be required to get the HD pack.
2) All the channels in the HD Pack are at 110, so you shouldn't need another dish. Depending on your LNBs and switch, you may need some additional items there because the 942 requires two seperate satellite feeds, one for each tuner. (Just as Norm said.) If you want the Voom HD channels in addition to the HD pack, you need another dish and switch. See this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=41404) There is also some good links to help you figure out what you have now.
And - Welcome to DBSTalk, Brad! :welcome_s
