" This site has been set up to accommodate requests for the portions of the DISH 921 DVR source code that are subject to the GNU Public License, or GPL. In compliance with the terms of the GPL, we are making this source code available to the public to download. Please note that the DISH 921 DVR software also includes some proprietary elements that are not subject to the GPL. You cannot create a working DISH 921 DVR software build without the additional proprietary code.

GPL source code items available for download are as follows:

* fLinux (34,784 KB)
* GNU Source Code (54,281 KB)
* games (4,258 KB)
"

Wonder what ppl can do with this. At the very least it seems like games can be added to the receiver. Quite interesting seeing Dish do this.

There is a warning to not alter any of the code or add to it.

This stuff has been added and removed from the Dish site many times over the past few years. And, it is ONLY the GPL parts of the software and not their own code for the DVR portions. I'm waiting for them to post the 522/625/942's software. I have already emailed www.gplviolations.org about E* using GPL and Linux/GNU on these receivers and not posting the GPL'd parts and not acknowledging that use.

I thought those machines were NOT using Linux.

They ARE using Linux, embedded in the EEPROM, not on disk.
