installer came out and installed a dish. Installer had to come back out to move dish to another location on roof due to original install not getting a good signal. Installer left the mounting bracket attached to old location on roof. Isn't the installer supposed to remove that?????

Bad, incompetent or novice installer! I've seen this happen often. They glued the dish to the roof with silicone. If they remove the mount, a large patch of the shingles come off. The foot should never be glued to the roof.

This should not have happened anyway. They need to take the mount off and properly put on new shingles to repair your roof.

just was just informed its company policy that they do not remove the mounts because holes would be left from the drilling and water would get in :eek2: :nono2:

I told them that was a poor policy, but again when I asked if it was company policy they said yes.

I got the names of the 2 people I spoke with that claim its policy. I'm going to go further up the chain with this.

Does anyone know of any install company that has this type of policy?

thanks in advance

They are definitely NOT roofers, nor do they have any knowledge of repairing them.

I would have suspected that was the reason that the mount was left. My Dish mount had been mounted the same way and I certainly wouldn't want it removed for that reason. No matter how they try to seal the resulting holes, they would be more vulnerable to leakage.

Anyone having rudimentary knowledge of roofing can easily remove the mount and replace the shingles.

my initial thought is that if a company installs something on your house and then removes it, they are responsible to remove and repair what they have done, not just part of it.

With that being said, I'm just going to let it be and wil not pursue any further. I thank everyone for their replies and comments.

thanks again

You're right. But, you have to hold their feet to the fire. It is not a criminal offense, so the local authorities won't prosecute.

It is a civil contractual matter between you and the company.

If you complain enough, they will take the mount off of your roof and repair the shingles.

Or, you can pay to have it done and sue the company in small claims court.

That's the law in most jurisdictions.

Do you you expect your satellite guy to moonlight as a roofer? The guy did him a favor, would you rather he detached the foot without saying anything, leaving the holes to draw water into the structure. Dish installers do not do "shingle replacement"!!!!

Yes! I am a satellite installer, and I have repaired roofs. Then, again, I've been a plumber. I am a master electrician, too.

That would be totally unethical.

A good and experienced installer would not have place the dish in the original position without a clear line of sight, anyway.

He probably did it, because he was lazy and wanted an easy job, or didn't care about the longevity of the install. It might have been treed out in months, anyway.

Even when I did fulfillment installs a few years back, I chose install locations that were advantageous to the cuatomer in the long run, even if it meant more work and more materials that I had to supply at my cost.

Not that you were obligated to assist this guy in your professional install... I'm not an installer, but I can install a system (have done so in the past)...

Whether or not the guy wants help I make it a point to be his shadow at my house whenever I need a tech at my house. You know about installs and you are not just the average Joe getting his system installed, you should have been out there doing your own QC on his performance. Not to do so and complain later is just silly.

Sorry Mike I see its not your thread...
