I've just gotten an amplifier with digital inputs so have hooked up the 921 with an optical cable. The receiver can handle DD and PCM. The 921 is setup to output both formats. So far, there hasn't been any digital content going to the receiver but I don't know if there is any available digital content on the channel. Are there any channels that always, or at least regularly, have some sort of digital content? Is there any way to know if there is digtial content in a broadcast? Thanks.

The 921 will output all channels via your optical cable, regardless if the program is DD2.0 or DD5.1 or analog only. The method you use to transport the audio between your 921 and your receiver, as in the optical cable has nothing to do with the channels encoded. However, if you don't use the optical cable you will never get the DD2.0 or DD5.1 encoded channels, only the analog stereo.

DonLandis,

What you state is what I expected to happen. When I didn't have any digital output from the 921, I checked the help screen and it said there would only be digital output if there was DD or PCM content available in the broadcast. A search of the forum threads seemed to confirm this and that only a few channels have DD or PCM content. So, are you sure about what you say? I'm just trying to figure out if the 921 is working properly since we all know its background.

DonLandis,

It looks like you are right afterall; today I am getting digital output to my receiver on all channels. I don't know why it worked today but not yesterday, other than the fact it is a 921.

All of the channels have PCM; some of them also have DD.
