811 DTV channel names?

When adding a local digital TV channel, the 811 asks for a name to be entered and cautions that not entering one could cause a problem. So, I enter names for all DTV channels, save and exit.

Where might one see these names? In all 811 use, including the on screen guide and banner info, the station call letters from PSIP appears.

The 811 takes the name from the PSIP data. If I recall, the name is used when adding analog channels, but I could be wrong. In any case it is not used for Digitally added channels from what I can tell.

The request for station names was after adding digital locals. I don't use analog channels. It would be nice if I could elect which (PSIP or names of my own choosing) to use.

I would agree, from a usability point of view it is rather confusing and it would be nice to allow the ability to assocate a user defined name with a station. Special when no one is provided.

So just for the heck of it, I added an analog channel. Lo and behold, the name you choose is what the guide and info banner use.
