301 --> 522 or 625

I currently have a 301 and I want to upgrade to a 522 or 625. What are my options on doing this???

Theres that upgrade offer but I think a e bay purchase is better, you can sell the box off when you are done.

If you go ebay get the receiver ID and check with Dish before buying. There are receivers out there that are being sold illegally, i.e. they are leased boxes. In these cases Dish will not activate the receiver.

Because of the changes that are rapidly approaching, I decided to lease a 522. Because when this MPEG4 shift comes I don't want to be stuck with an obsolete receiver I could not sell off.

They offered me $25 bucks for my 301 but I think I'll just eBay it. DVR's are very addicting, when all said and done your not going to want anything but DVR's in your house.

Very true, can't imagine the days without my DVR .:lol: If you are going through DISH then your only choice would be 625. I'd lease, so you don't have to worry about a broken DVR for a year. :)

One more thing, make sure you have the second feed into the 522/625 you will enjoy it more with dual tuner.

quick question, do you have to have a dual feed or is there a way to combine/split the signal? I have dual feeds upstairs in my masterbedroom, if I could combine/split the signal and use one of those and then use the other one to run back to my downstairs tv that way I can watch what I recorded upstairs if I am too lazy to go up there. does this make sense or am I talking jibbersh? :grin:

First, as far as I know that there is no way to split "feed" before it goes into the receiver without getting into dish switches "fun".

Second, if I understand you correctly, what you want to do is to watch/record one show downstairs while watch/record the other show in your bedroom, right?
Then 522/625 will do that just fine. Just run a cable (coaxial) off the second tuner from the DVR in your bedroom to downstairs. With the UHF remote, you can easily watch/record one show downstairs while watch/record the other show in your bedroom. Vice versa.

Ok so if I just call Dish up and ask them fro the upgrade to a 625, I'll be renting it till the MPEG4 conversion. So by leasing it I'll be paying for the Dish-On-Demand charge ($5) and a second feed ($5) right???

Actually it was explained to me as a $5 VOD fee and $5 rental fee. The additional outlet fee is waived if you keep the receiver connected to a phone line. Also, I am not sure if the 625 is part of "Dishing it UP" yet, the promotion could still be limited to 522's. Also there is an install fee as they will not let you self install the 522 and 625. The fee is based upon your personal qualification score. This install fee in non-refundable.

WOW this is great news :) so to add it all up: (Installation fees, $5 VOD a monthly, $5 rental fee monthly) Not too bad.

I've heard of Dishing it up, but would I be able to upgrade as an existing customer?

I would rather pay 175 or thereabouts for a 522. The only difference is VOD on the 625.

If you dont mind doing the install, and I enjoy such activities, the cost is only a few bucks more and the 522 can be sold on e bay when your done using it.

the move to mpeg4 will take so long the 522 will be worn out before its a preoblem
