i've been going back and forth between getting the 942 or getting tivo. one thing that draws me to tivo is their tivotogo which allows me to transfer content from the hard drive via wireless lan to my computer where i can burn to dvd (and edit out commercials or do some other things with sonicmydvd software). after reading through a lot of the threads here, it doesn't seem that you can do that with the 942. am i correct?

however, i'm drawn to the 942 because of the capabilities of hooking up a second tv (bedroom) so that i can finally get rid of my old 301 which continues to take dump after dump (i'm on my 4th one so far...) and to minimize the amount of electronic equipment in the bedroom (for the wife...) how exactly does the second tv connect up to the 942 (which would be in my living room)? do i just hook it up through the coax from the wall straight into the tv (actually from the wall to dvd and then to tv)?

then again, i'm hesitant to drop $700 on something that will become obsolete in a year when mpeg-4 comes out.

any thoughts? thanks for any help!

Let's take them in turn ...

1) No, E* has gone to great lengths to ensure you cannot write DVDs with the recorded material.

2) The second TV would be SD and be fed from the 942 via RG-6 coax.

3) A number of existing subs have managed to get the lease deal - there are several threads here that detail how to do this, but basically, writing a nice email to ceo@dishnetwork.com should do the trick.

To clarify datwell's post.

You CAN record to DVD using any of the standard video outputs.

You can NOT access the digital data that is on the HDD.
