View Full Version : Where's Dr. Who?

Has anyone noticed that Dr. Who, the venerable British sci-fi classic TV series, is now virtually nonexistent on US television? It's as if the Doctor went into his TARDIS and dematerialized. (For you non-aficionados, a TARDIS is a cross between a time machine and a spaceship. The Doctor's TARDIS usually looks on the outside like an old-timey British police call box, or phone booth, but inside, it's huge.)

Why won't someone air it? BBC America has seemingly dropped it. And the Sci-Fi Channel doesn't run it, either.

Won't someone please pick up this classic show?

Maryland Public Television still runs Dr. Who on late night Saturday evenings (actually Sunday mornings) at 12 Midnight or thereabouts. Perhaps there are other local PBS stations that still run the show and you can find one in your' area. Good Luck, it's a great show and never seems dated or out of style.

There are a few.... very.... choice.... words..... that I can say about Lionheart Television (the US distribution arm of the BBC). Basically, the way they licensed the show, SciFi Channel and BBC America could only show the Tom Baker episodes from Robot to the fourth story of The Key Of Time arc. Because of the way Lionheart operates, it's almost impossible to air Blakes 7

The local PBS station that I volunteered for was able to air all of the available episodes thanks to strong contributions. However, by the time the station pulled the series, it was the second most expensive series behind The McNeil/Leher Newshour.

So, don't blame the stations, blame Lionheart.

well, lionheart and the BBC have always had the reputation of being hard to deal with and greedy-they are the ones who usually get the blame whenever someone wants to make a big budget who film or americanized version and suddenly it becomes too expensive!!!!rhey aren't making them anymore, so why should they be so durn propriatary about it...
