View Full Version : BUG REPORT L226: Unnecessary alert w/Recall Btn during record

Severity: MINOR

In single mode, when recording two programs simultaneously, on say channels X and Y, you can change channels freely back and forth betwen X to Y.

However, when using the Recall button to do the same (ie., going back to Y from X or vice-versa), an alert dialog appears indicating that the recording will be cancelled. It seems that you should be able to use Recall to go back and forth between channels being recorded without cancelling either recording, just as you can manually enter the channels.

Contacted Dish Technical Support to report : NO

What makes you think this is a bug? If my understanding is correct, the recall button changes channels on a single tuner thus the recording has to be stopped to switch the channel. IE a single tuner can't be on the recording channel while you asked it to recall the last viewed channel on that tuner.

The Swap button is what you need to be using.

This one I can't agree with you Tom-Tx. The Manual states "Press RECALL to go back to the last satelite receiver channel you were watching. Press it again to switch betwen the last two satellite receiver channels you were watching."

It states nothing about toggling between tuners, or even references tuners. Nor should it. The RECALL button on dish units has always toggled between the last two channels watched.

Having to keep track which tuner you are watching pretty much defeats the purpose of that button, especially since you can just key in the channels manually. The logic clearly is in the 942 to "do the right thing", its just that the RECALL button is not using that logic the same as manually keying in the channel numbers.

The SWAP button is for picture in picture, which I rarely use (and find as useful as billions of "ring tones" for cell phones! zzzzz).

RECALL changes channels on a single tuner. If you are recording on that tuner, the act of changing channels will cancel the recording. What you're describing with the RECALL button is expected behavior on a single tuner device, not a dual tuner device.

SWAP changes tuners - exactly what you're doing by directly changing the channels. All you're doing is changing the tuners.

This is not a bug. It is expected behavior. Use the SWAP button.

But don't the channel numbers also select a channel for a single tuner? If so, then there's obviously a workaround which automatically changes tuners.

I suppose the manual could use an update then in either case, because this is not obvious (nor in my opinion, intuitive) in the least.

No, entering a new channel number in single user mode does not necessarily change the channel on the currently used tuner. It may, if the other tuner is busy, but if the other tuner is free, it will change to that channel on the other tuner.
