I recently received one of the leased 942s. I was looking at the contents of the box and noticed there was no programming card to go into the slot on the left front of the box.

Now, I should explain that I intended to activate the 942 and deactivate an older unit. Thus, it seemed possible that E* intended that I would swap the card between the receivers, but I wasn't sure because I've always bought my equipment (and obviously purchased equipment comes with a card).

In any event, my install is scheduled for tomorrow (activating the 942 and installing a 61.5 dish). So any help on this question would be apprecaited.

Thanks.

The card is build-in to the box.

Yup. The entire set-up procedure may take about an hour in total. When this is going on, the ROO & SOO info is displayed - it's also printed on the outside of the shipping box. You're gonna love the 942 - we sure do!

Thanks for the quick response. I had noted that the smart card numbers, etc. were printed on the labels, but it was not self evident that the card was built in.

Again, thanks for clearing that up for me.

In case you curious, the reason that the 942 has a smartcard slot is for future security enhancements. Those who have been with Dish a while have gone through the process of swapping their blue smartcards for yellow ones. Should Dish need to do this again, they'll send you a new card that will be used instead of the built-in one.

Been there. I've been with E* since 5/99. Hence, the loyal subscriber lease of the 942. But it's the first unit I've had with a built-in card. My newest receiver is only a 501.

I thought it was time for a change . . . to HD! And dual tuners doesn't hurt either.
