any news on when The Sportsman Channel will be added to DISH?... it's unlike OLN and the Outdoor Channel in that it's ONLY hunting and fishing... i find it hard to understand why it hasn't been added yet.... the idea of always being able to watch a fishing or hunting show, 24 hours a day is awesome... the other outdoor channels have too much other stuff that i don't care for.

Hunting and Fishing? Are you sure you're in NYC? :D

You can email Dish and suggest it be added. But I haven't even heard of this channel before. I'm sure they've already contacted Dish about getting carried though.

I've spoken with the CEO @ Dish and at The Sportsman Channel. Supposebly its in negotiations at this time. I'm not sure when it will be added, if it will be at all. Since Charlie does not care about adding channels that us customers want.

The sportsman's Channel was reported uplined on "Tax info channel" 240 that never quite made it to the subscriber tier from 8/2/03 to 12/18/03.

They were going to use another name of the sportsman channel, it was going to be called the yawn channel! I think they are going to add it right next to the clock channel!

You must not be a hunter or a fisherman.

hey, new york has excellent fishing and hunting... my biggest bass last year came out of central park lake if you can believe it!

my parents get the sportsman channel in upstate new york on adelphia cable and i was just wondering if it was coming to dish or directv...a lot of people i know want this channel... if you are a fisherman or hunter, the other channels just don't give you enough shows where TSC is ALL fishing and hunting with no infomercials or other crap.... if you don't hunt and fish, then i can see why you wouldn't watch it... but to be able to get a hunting or fishing show on TV at anytime is a big bonus to this channel and i thinks lots of people would pay to get it.

I think the Bowling Channel is higher up on the list of requested channels. Unfortunately, so is the Sewing Channel, The Car Wash Channel, and the Paint Drying Channel.

But, they'll get to the "Sportsman" Channel right after those. (supposebly.)

Watching someone fishing or blowing away some poor defenceless animal for 24 hours a day, wow TV doesn't get much better than that does it.......NOT.

If DISH adds this channel, do all subscribers have to paint their necks red??

I'd want a hunting and fishing channel anyday before a golf or a tennis channel, or [God knows how many] channels devoted to baseball, basketball, and football -- and I don't even fish or hunt. With so many deer-car collisions and so much deer-caused crop damage nowadays, maybe a channel that might get more folks to hunt deer would thin the herds. Maybe it could have a shows called (1) Law & Order: Bambi Crimes Unit, or (2) CSI Deep Woods, or (3) A The West Wing episode in which Snakehead fish (which can live rather long out of water) overrun the White House lawn and the West Wing staff and the Secret Service hunt them down with lawnmowers.

How lazy do you have to be to sit and watch a fishing? I mean seriously. "Sitting in a boat holding a pole in my hand is just so much work, so I think I would rather just sit and watch some one do it. All that hook baiting, casting, reiling in the line. And if I actually catch a fish, then I would maybe burn off that beer buzz I got going!" Wow, I'm worn out just typing about it!

When it comes to fishing, I suspect they'd have shows on places to go fishing, techniques to get more fish, etc. For hunting, it would probably be kinda like the content of The American Hunter magazine. I really doubt it would be merely a camera trained on someone fishing all day. If they really do shows on PLACES to hunt and fish, it might have more travelogue to it than the so-called Travel Channel's shows on haunted houses, world's best restrooms, etc.

As to being so lazy just to WATCH people hunt and fish, I suspect adult viewers of this channel would be more likely to participate in the activity shown (percentagewise) than those who watch tennis, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and the other "ball" sports.

LOL! Slamminc11....

But couldn't you say that about ANY sports channel? Why watch Golf on TV? Even *I* play golf on occasion. Basketball? You can easily do a one-on-one find a friend. Baseball? Remember when we were kids and we could get the gang together for a pick-up game in the empty lot? Football? Most of my ailments now are due to playing football without padding or helmethelmehelmeleehemerhemthelmet. How about Soccer? Again pick-up games happen all over the world (except in the US). So why do we need ANY sports channels?

The answer is easy and you already know it. Because it is entertaining.

The point is that watching a fishing of hunting show is not just watching the guy do it. But generally (just like the the golf channel) you get pointers on how to... where to... And some people (more than you think) like this stuff. And not all of them have red necks. I personally know three people who hunt deer and that is the meat for their family that winter! No joke. They eat what they kill. They are all three professional college graduates. Two have PhDs.

I can live without the sportsman channel or just make due with the Outdoor Channel. I really don't like these channels myself. But just like some vocal few whine and moan and cry and stomp up and down that the 1047th baseball channel that has three games a year of one particular team isn't being added, or those that are unsatisfied with ONLY 57 channels that show football programs scream for the NFL Network, or those that can't get enough of soccer aren't satisfied with 17 channels of Soccer coverage (if you include the foreign language channels), some one actually has the audacity to ask for a second outdoor-type sports channel! *GASP*!

So think about this the next time you see some one ask for a channel to watch steroid-injecting millionaires refusing to play because they hurt their big toe while lying to the press about accidentally falling into a box of drugs and taking them without knowing!

See ya

Reply: It is not entertaining, I joined E* partly because it wasnt focused on sports, it is focused more on general interest.

lvkewlkid,

I understand that this channel is not entertaining TO YOU (or to me for that matter!). But it is entertaining to many. More than you know. And it is no more a specialty channel than the Golf Channel, the NBA channel, TVG/Hortse racing channel, the Fox Soccer Channel/Gol TV.

My entire point is that when some one askes and whines and cries and holds their breath because the Buffalo Baisen Basball channel is not being added, many people will jump in and say what a travesty it is and ask how Dish could stay in business without the (insert channel name here) channel!

When some one asks for a TRULY unique channel or with only one orther outlet (The Outdoor Channel is the only other place for this kind of stuff), the so-called sports fans come out of the woodwork to make fun of the entire genre. I was making a little fun back. :)

See ya
Tony

It would be the third one, no?

(Also, if you're including channels that may show a soccer game now and then as a "soccer channel", you should include all the channels that show the occasional bass fishing yawnfest. There are quite a lot, surprisingly.)

Sportsman Goes Hunting with Comcast

By Mike Reynolds

The Sportsman Channel has the big buck in its sights.

The hunting and fishing network has signed a multiyear agreement with Comcast Corp. to seek distribution opportunities with the nation’s largest MSO.

A spokeswoman for the Big Bend, Wis.-headquartered service said that under the “hunting license” with Comcast, affiliate representatives have already engaged systems in talks, but they have not yet secured any carriage.

The spokeswoman added that Sportsman is working toward deals with Comcast systems in areas with a high propensity for fishing and hunting, including Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Rate-card specifics were not disclosed... etc....
