View Full Version : OTA Antenna choice question?
I'm currently a D* subscriber getting only SD service. Have wanted to make the jump to HD service, since my displays will handle it. strongly considering moving to E*, since i can lease some gear instead of having to buy it all.
my real question is this:
does anyone have experience purchasing and using their OTA antenna's from either Antennas Direct, or Solid Signal?
Or any other supplier you can reccommend?
I live in the outskirts of San Diego, and would pretty much be looking at a long range antenna. According to an SS Tech, he said my HD OTA Signals were all UHF, and as follows:
Fox 6.1 On ch. 23
WB 69.1 On ch 19
NBC 39.1 on ch 40
PBS 15.1 On ch 30
KUSI 18 On ch 18
ABC 10.1 On ch. 25
CBS 8.1 On ch. 55
ALL UHF, on ch. 13-69
anybody else on this forum have any experience with AntennasDirect or Solid Signal long range antennas?
Thanks,
Paul
Are Antennas Direct and Solid Signal retailers? Most antenna retailers get their product from the same few antenna manufacturers.
Things you need to know for comparison purposes other than dealer reputation, return policy and cost:
-gain
-rated reception range
-reception pattern
-VHF or UHF

Yeah, they're both retailers. Solid Signal has a link on the AVS Forum, and found the other one by doing a web search. Solid Signal also has a link to antennaweb.org, and both of them list the info about gain and reception pattern and range. was just wondering if anyone had any positive things to say about the dealer they bought their antenna from.
not sure about either's return policy, but both list costs.
Heard good things about Antennas Direct on various forums. They have a good return policy with a 90 day money-back satisfaction guarantee and lifetime warranty against corrosion and manufacturer defects. I ordered the DB2 UHF antenna from them last night. Will let you know if there's a problem.

thanks for the input. i was leaning towards ordering from them anyway, and will also post an update if there's a problem

I have the DB4 from Antennas Direct, mounted on the roof of my 2 story house. I easily pick up HD channels from Milwaukee, which is roughly 25 miles as the crow flies. Looking at the antenna estimators, most suggested I go with a much larger antenna than the DB4.
I would give them an absolutely positive rating - the antenna has worked flawlessly, looks good (compared to larger yagi-style ones), and was cheap. Doesn't get much better than that in my book...

I live about 30 miles for the stations. I tried several antennas and the best reception was about 85% Then I purchased the Channel Master Stealth Antenna and I added the amplifier component. About $37 for the Antenna and another $43 for the amplifier. My reception went from 85% to 120% to 125%
