From SF Gate:

Internet founders to be honored with computing's 'Nobel'
Two men developed data transmission standards in the 1970s

Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn, two of the Internet's founding fathers, will be presented with the computing industry's equivalent of the Nobel Prize at a ceremony in San Francisco tonight.

The former partners, who created technology that allows computers to share information with each other, will receive the 2004 A.M. Turing Award from the Association for Computing Machinery.

He got some award the other day (probably a year ago) from some internet award banquet. I thought it was kinda funny.

I had always heard that it was some British physicist and the DOD.

Next time, try a wisecrack that isn't growing mold, and wasn't out of context the first 12 million times it was cracked.

And people from Texas have difficulty with comprehension skills.I DO NOT!!! :( :bad_nono:

(And I'm sure Chris probably won't speak up for himself, so I'll say neither does he. ;) )

Back to the article:"What's amazing is that it mostly works, despite the viruses, attacks, zombies and whatever else is out there," Cerf said earlier this week at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. What are "zombies"?

I think Bogy was making a joke ntexasdude . After all Gore never did say he invented the internet.

Here BTW isa link to a story about ARPANET which evolved into the internet. ARPA is the Governemtn's Advanced research and Planning agency. It has sometimes been part of DoD (as DARPA) and sometimes separate.

" What are "zombies"?"

A zombie computer (abbreviated zombie) is a computer attached to the Internet that has a hidden software program or backdoor. This backdoor allows the computer to be remotely controlled by others. Some uses for a zombie include conducting distributed denial of service attacks or sending spam, while not revealing an attacker's true identity.
