View Full Version : Half of my channels are missing

We had a nearby lightning strike several days ago. Now I only get about half of the channels. I have 3 receivers on a Directv dual LNB round dish with a 3x4 Multi-switch. All the receivers are doing the same thing. A tech at directv said I should have 70% or better signal strength on Transponders 1 & 2. I get 98% on transponder 2 and zero on transponder 1. Any suggestions?

If all the receivers are getting 0 on trans 1 and signal on trans 2 it could be the LNB, however I would try bypassing the switch with one receiver to be sure the switch is not bad.

I did try reversing the two leads coming from the LNB to the Multi-switch. I thought that the channels that were not working would work and visa versa on the other channels. But, there was no change. How do I bypass the multi-switch? Do I need a splitter with 2 in and 1 out?

Thanks,
David

No spliters. Use a barrel connector. Disconect all 3 reciever leads from the switch and both satellite leads. Use barrel connectors between any two an go check for even and odd transponders. If you still have the problem replace the LNB and check again with the switch bypassed. If it works then hook the switch back up if the problem returns then replace the switch.

Sounds like the cable connector at the multiswitch to the lnb to the particular one leg or a bad multiswitch.

Thanks!

I bypassed the multi-switch and connected to one receiver. I now get all the channels on the receiver. Looks like a bad switch. I will order one tonight and replace it ASAP.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I would also suggest you properly ground the stuff or you will just be doing the same thing again.

You might also want to look at what Mike posted, one bad connector will cause the problem.
