Today there will be a Retailer Charlie Chat. I have a retailer friend of mine who is supposed to let me listen to the chat via speakerphone. :)
I am expecting that they will announce that Discovery Theater HD will be added to the Dish Network lineup on June 17th (I got an email last night from "someone" who confirmed it)
The have been hinting to the Dealers on their retailer channel (Channel 999) that "A new HD channel may be coming to Dish Network soon" and to watch the Charlie Chat for more information.
I dont know why the retailer chats are private, especially when transcripts are made available to the public a few days later.
Anyways if anything big breaks I will be sure to post it here first!
Thanks for visiting DBStalk.COM

I will be watching this evening on tape (JVC D-VHS) and am hoping to see the announcement of West Palm Beach locals turn on date.

Eeek my dealer buddy just called me, hes got an emergency call and is running out to do it, he may not be back in time for the show. He said worst case he will drop me over a tape later tonight.
We will get you the info. :)

West Palm Beach = June 19. Currently NO CBS feed available so they will be free to all until CBS is available. Being in a white area for CBS, I can order from NY for $1.50, so I hope they never get it. They think they will have it when the city launches though.

Rking is watching, no mention of Discovery HD yet.
Many of the AT150 channels are moving off 119 to 110 such as Golf Channel. I am listening to this over the phone so I did not see the list.
Also more local cities coming soon.
Thats it for now.
Scott,
Avsforum.com is listing today as your birthday. If it is correct, happy birthday!
just for the record, this is E*'s idea of "more" channels and "500" availability-yeah-there are a bunch of channels there, but they are MOSTLY new locals-outside of that, i haven't actually seen anything new added unless it was a channel name change or a channel that produces kickbacks to E*, such as a shopping network or a porn channel-ALWAYS remember that chuck's middle initial is "B", for "bottom line", which in business is not necessarily a bad thing, but for a service that advertises "500 channels", but you can't get what is increasingly becoming the majority of them, then that's just being a bit disingenious(sic)...

Yes it is my Birthday, thanks John.
I only heard the 1st half hour, any mention of Discovery HD?

What new channels would you want?
(And when they add new channels, then the PQ whiners start up about how E* adds too many channels.)

That sucks. Perhaps the Discovery HD situation is like the CBS from West Palm Beach situation. They expect to have it up by the city's launch date, so perhaps they expect to have a contract in place by the time Discovery HD launches.

Which ones are the channels that are moving from 119 to 110?

I hate to break everyone's hearts and make the announcement of moving channels. I am sure they will ALL be missed by all. With no futher adu (sp?), here they are:
1. The everpopular Channel 101, Remote Control Help (and just when they add a Spanish track to it.
2. Don't everyone call at once to complain about this one, but you are about to miss Channel 222, Home Shopping Network.
3. Channel 401 - The Golf Channel, to be simulcast for a while.
4. Boo Hiss, Channel 507 PPV Movie
5. Ditto, Channel 517 PPV Movie
6. This is a real shame for everyone, but those without a dish 500 will soon lose (not loose) Channel 500 - PNPPV Barker. No more of those PPV previews.
7. Uh Oh. This one will surely (don't call me shirley) have everyone howling, Channel 226 - QVC
8. Ditto again (Mega dittos?) Channel 224 - Shop at Home
9. Here goes the most in demand channel on the system, Channel 9601 - BTV1.
and, the one I missed but am too lazy to put in it's proper space:
10. Channel 447 - PPV Sports.
I sure hope everyone isn't too disappointed.
:D
Official moving day is June 19th. Everyone get out the vans and drive to Wyoming to assist.
Gee, I wonder how ShopNBC won the right to remain at 119.

Thanks again everyone for all the birthday wishes. :)
Scott
how can they move 101 remote control help to 110? isnt this one of the channels people first see when they aim properly after setting up dish but "not subscribed" yet... You'd think they would want to leave an FTA in the 119 slot... my personal opinion, ditch the channel all together and give me National Geogrphic or MTV hits in it's place ;) I know how to use the remote ;D
I thought it odd that they would move ch. 101 to 110°, since every satellite needs one FTA channel to make sure the Dish and receiver are working. But then I remembered that channel 262 (Angel One) is also FTA on the 119° satellite.

I can think of three reasons:
1 MSNBC Carriage agreement
2 CNBC Carriage agreement, and last but not least
3 NBC O&O retransmission concent.
See ya

How am I going to see Charlie Chats/Retailer Chats?
Scott Greczkowski

The retailer chats are not for public viewing. I get to see them as I am friends of a few dealers who will give me tapes of the shows or in todays case let me listen live via speaker phone. :)
One of the retailers told me that if Dish has a problem with my listening in he will just say I am an employee :) Infact one dealer offered to take me to the Team Summit this past April.
Of course the regular Charlie Chats are available to everyone. :)

I went to their website and the West Palm Beach CBS affiliate parent company is Freedom Communications. WPEC 12 (CBS) http://www.wpecnews12.com/
They own the Grand Rapids CBS affiliate, WWMT 3, also, and Dish reached agreement with that station so most likely Dish reached agreement for West Palm Beach CBS and both are around same time. So in a nutshell, we wont have another Directv - KOIN problem most likely.

Ah, the NBC connection. I forgot to think of the 1/3 NBC ownership coming into play here. Good point.
I mean, How I'm going to watch Charlie Chats/Technical Forum?

I watched a tape late last night. Charlie mentioned that if a customer misses the channels moving to 110 they can call for a 500 upgrade. He didn't mention if the upgrade was free or not.
Hopefully there will be more information before the channels move. I'll call up and say that I miss one of the shopping channels if it gets me a free upgrade :)

Any word on when the locals on 7xx-8xx will be removed. I know they take up no space because they are mirroring other channels, but they do occupy space in the program guide.

I assume the shopping channels will still be in Top 50, but simply have the (*You must have the Dish 500 to receive this channel.) added?
I can't believe that they don't just make all the shopping channels free. Strangely, you have to buy Top 50 or above to get (IIRC) ShopNBC, QVC, and HSN.
TNGTony
06-02-02, 05:30 PM
No...HSN and QVC at least are FTA. No purchase of programming necessary. Angel 1 at 119° is the same way.
See ya

I hear there's no money in free TV anymore...
Dang viewers zap past the commercials anyway.
Of course, if it's all one big commercial, they don't watch at all!
