How Do You Do It??

I have read numerous threads on this site indicating current subscribers have somehow convinced Dish to allow them to lease a 942. How did you do it? I have tried for the past three days in talking with CSRs to get a 942 vice the 811 since I would like a DVR. I suppose I could take the 811 and go get a HD TIVO, but why have two boxes when I could have only one! Each time the CSR cuts me off and tells me 942 can only be obtained from commercial installers.

There is a thread on this forum that details how this has been accomplished in the past. Basically, you write a very nice email to ceo@echostar.com requesting the lease. It has also been circulating that there will be a general 942 lease offering soon.

You may be already aware of this, but the HD Tivo only works with DirecTV, it is not a stand-alone unit that would work with your 811.

There are stand-alone SD Tivo units that would work with your 811, but the recordings would be in SD.

When I called, I got the same stuff from the CSR, then explained that I am a very good customer and was very disappointed, especially when their competitors offer the big four networks in HD. I politely explained that Dish would have to reward my loyalty to keep me, and that I would like to speak with a supervisor. That got me to someone in the "executive offices" who called back within hours to confirm that I was getting an "exception" to lease the 942.
