View Full Version : vcr auto get time on directv
i got a jvc vcr that claims to auto set the time but it doesnt. does any one know if they can auto set the time or does the vcr have to be connected with a coaxial cable to a arial antenna or basic cable without the box?? PBS local does carry the time so i have my directv reciever tuned to that but i doubt it will work .like gemstar builnt into rca tv`s, they only pick up the guide system if connected to a outside off-air arial or basic cable without a box. at any rate, i will make sure my next vcr will have memory back up for the time as panasonic does or i will take it right back to the store for refund if it looses the time when i take the plug out.
I have a auto set time VCR and have never been able to get the time off the satellite. I think it's only designed for analog cable.

MY JVC VCR gets it's time OTA from the local PBS station. It also picked up the time from lifeline cable (analog) when I still had that.
For those of you with cable boxes, tune your cable box to PBS when you want to auto-set the time.

You should get a time hack from PBS over the air or on cable. I don't think it works with satellite. Also be sure to go into the user menus in the VCR and make sure that the it's setup to receive the time automatically.
I used to receive time from our local PBS to both of my JVC VCR's but for some reason it stopped working so I now I just manually set them.
I also am unable to get either of my two JVC vcrs to download the time from Dish or local PBS OTA. I have had other vcrs that would. Bummer since one JVC does not even have a battery backup.
