DIRECTV does not charge extra if the phone line is disconnected. I believe the $4.99 mirror fee is charged, regardless of you using an old receiver.

If this is the case, I suggest you to get the new receiver(s) that are part of the new subscriber offer as they have more features.

Both Directv 110 dnd Dish 110 are pretty much in the same spot.

D* does not charge you extra for not having a phone line connected. You lose the ability to order PPVs with your remote, but there are other ways to order them... and ordering online costs nothing extra!

...do they charge $4.99 for each additional receiver?

Yes, there is a mirroring charge of $4.99 for each additional receiver on your account.

That's a bit complicated. You cannot use used receivers to establish a new account-D* won't let you do that any more. Also, depending on where you live, and whether D* offers local channels in your market, you may not be able to use that old RCS receiver on your account. If your locals come from the 119 or the 72.5 sat, you'll need one of the newer receivers to access both satellites.

Also, if you want to use tha old receiver, you'll need to buy a new access card from D*, at a cost of $20.

You'd probably do just as well by getting a new subscriber package from D* directly, or from a reputable dealer such as (shameless plug alert) Robert at Value Electronics.

BTW, while D* and E* share space on the 110 satellite, D* only uses it for HD programming, so unless you are going to go directly to HD, you won't need to worry about seeing that bird.
