View Full Version : RCA 435RH resets by itself?

I have two 435RHs. One works fine. The other will lose many or all channels, then search for signal and reload the channel list periodically. This is random, sometimes happening a few times a day, and then maybe not happen for day or more. Sometimes it just loses the channels and we have to do a power off reset.
Sometimes it comes back on the same channel we were on, sometimes not.
This started happening after we installed the second antenna for locals on 72.5, and I replaced the coax from the multiswitch to the receiver, but I think that's co-incidence?
D*'s advice is to reset the receiver. That doesn't help, that's the problem.

Is the receiver going (gone)? It looks like the D10 is the only replacement available now? But there's a thread with some not so favorable comments on that too...

thanks

There is a known issue with the DRD435RH tied to the software update enabling 72.5/95W functionality. Most of the models accepted the patch just fine. Others, not so much. Your resetting 435RH needs to be replaced.

Is there a way to reset the 435 without pulling the plug? The 430 could be reset by pressing the info and right arrow buttons for 3 seconds, but that doesn't seem to work with the 435.

The other message board has a discussion on the RCA435RH's:

I discovered if any scout features are disabled, it does reduce the # of times the RCA435RH reset (e.g. 2X a day vs. 2X a week now)

So far my second replacement 435 (for a 430 that went bust) has been pretty stable. The first replacement was not able to download the software update.

I use Scout and the Timers, but have disabled Suggestion learning on all profiles. If you don't use Suggestions you may want to turn that off learning too and see if it helps.

One time the receiver did lose all channels above 200 when I selected the "sort by channel name" option in the guide. (I thought it was the scroll down button, like on the 430) And it also reset on its own once when I was using Alphasort, but the 430 had the same problem with Alphasort.

Overall I like the 435 a lot better than the 430 I had for over three years. There are more options, such as the Category Guide, and the guide seems to always reliably go out to 3 or 3 1/2 days like it should. Caller ID doesn't work with the wireless phone jack, but no biggy there as I'd probably disable the feature anyway since I wouldn't want the new call messages messing up recordings.
