It's that time again for yet another Charlie Chat. The next scheduled chat is June 10th. Here is the time and channel:

Channel 101 - 9-10 pm EST

Don't forget that the official DBSTalk.Com chat room will be open during the program. http://chat.dbstalk.com

The last chat during the technical forum was a huge success and a heck of a lot of fun so I invite you to join us.

Just a note that 251 has been removed from the EPG. :) I hope that Charlie has some announcements about some new basic programming and Discovery HD. I wish he'd address the situation with Vivendi and what they are gonna be offering and when.

Darn. I won't be able to see it live due to the first day of summer classes.

Some questions which I'll probably mail off:
* What's going to haapen with the local channels located at 7xx-8xx
* Whats the status of E*8, and will we be able to watch the launch?
* When the channel gets launched this fall, will Dish carry the AMC Hollywood Classic channel in the AT150 pack.
* How about adding a "Old Time Radio Classics" audio channel?

don't hold your breath about discovery HD....

Discovery probably won't happen until the merger, if there is one.

If E* can add Discovery HD, they will benifet greatly since D* wont have it.

I am still hearing for 2 seperate contacts regarding Discovery HD that I should stay tuned to the next Charlie Chat for the answer.

Due to the fact that Discovery Theater HD is on the new Demo loop I am thinking we will get it.

Is there a website for this new AMC Hollywood Classics channel cuz I haven't heard anything about it yet? Somebody inform me.

I'd be very happy just to see The 80's audio channel go stereo. I never thought I'd say this about a Musak radio station, but this specific channel is quite good.

Discovery HD would finally persuade me to buy that SW64 that I keep thinking about.

I have heard many times from people that the mono audio channels on America's Top 150 would be upgraded to stereo quality sound, but they have never given me a time frame.

Steve Mehs
06-03-02, 08:29 PM
I dont see that happening as Dish has no control over the quality of the music channels

I read somewhere that AT&T Broadband customers will have the Nicktoons channel added this summer. Is there any chance of that one coming to E*? That might push me over the edge to upgrade to AT150.

Fix Distinctive Ringing Caller ID on the 501
Make a DP401 with DD and no PVR
Enable OpenTV on the 6000
Add All Sub for the 5000

I would love to hear Mr. Ergen provide an update on the 921 HDPVR, and announce Discovery HD.

How about an explanation of why they think $550 is a fair price for the 721, especially considering their PVR track record..

BobaBird
06-05-02, 02:50 AM
Maybe they could actually demonstrate the 721 and explain what it can do that 2 501s can't. Enough of the teasing and remarks made in passing that hint of possible greatness. What is "Enhanced PVR"?

06-05-02, 08:02 AM
please add goodlife and trio.

Hmmmm.... there is no listing for a Charlie Chat on Monday on my 501.

Move Pax to AT50 or open it up for subs who subscribe to locals, since Pax isn't in the Portland locals lineup.

CSPAN3
West coast feeds of anything, especially movie channels
Extra movie channels

How about some regional news channels on the spots, like northwest cable news or some regional public interest channels?

Update on the Portland locals outage. What happened, and why are we still getting dropouts in the picture?

And what are you going to do about our lost shopping channel? ;)

Looks like Charlie is one step ahead of ya, check out 223, ValueTV. Mens Shopping is now on 221, where PIN used to be.

I wish that they would add some other channels besides shopping channels, but perhaps this makes way for some other channels.

Okay, the Charlie Chat is listed on 101, but I had to do a front panel reset and let the guide reload in order for the event to show up.

Hey...here's something I thought I'd never ask for...

We need a "real" schedule on the Value Channel (223). (In reality The Vision Channel (http://www.thevisionchannel.com)) This morning I happened by the channel to find classic TV and a great old (and I do mean old) movie.

At 3 am "Love That Bob" (Bob Cummings Show)
at 3:30 "You Bet Your Life" (starring Groucho Marx)
at 4am "Flying Duecers" (1939) starring Laurel and Hardy.

Great stuff I haven't seen in quite some time! With the real schedule on the EPG I could set up some events on the Dishplayer!

Anyway...nice to see that a "shopping channel" has more programming on that the "regular channels" at this time. At the time I happened by this "shopping channel" programming, Comedy Central, Lifetime, DIY, HGTV, E!, Style, History, BET, Speedvision, The Outdoor Channel, CMT, GAC, TNN, TLC, ABC Family, Pax, Discovery, Tech TV, CNN/FN, CNBC, Travel Channel, KTLA, WWOR, WGN Superstation, Galavision,TV Games, Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Ohio 2 (Cincinnati) had.....
...you guessed it....
INFOMERCIALS!

See ya
Tony

However, the Charlie Chat is NOT listed on the Dishplayer.

I would like to see Nicktoons added.

Nope, both are seperate channels, ABCFAM is 180 and PAX 181.

Well, DISHPlayer owners will have to use a manual timer or record 3 hours, because they did not include the Charlie Chat in tonights schedule.

Thanks for the info Chris. It's great to see that the folks at E* still have the willingness to see what we, the subs, have to say.

As to the Charlie Chat Summary....
I will be doing my civic duty tonight at 8pm edt doing an hour-long live call in show on cable access with a state representative. So even if I bolt right away after the shoot (which I wont--must schmooze with the politically powerful :)) I wouldn't make it back to do the Charlie Chat summary "live" in time to get it going by 10:02. I will post the full summary hopefully later in the evening as I watch the Dishplayer's recording.

See ya
Tony

ABC Family is the old Fox Family which was formerly The Family Channel that began as the Christian Broadcasting Network.

I hope i did not leave any names out.

Nope, I think that about covers them all!

Now ABC has to honor existing contracts with religious broadcasters. It must really gall them.

I'm still waiting for DISH to provide a solution that will allow me to see all subscribed channels at the same time, now that they have put some of my locals at 148. I've also got Sky Angel at 61.5,
and core AT150 programming at 119 and 110.

I could upgrade to a 501, if I could afford it right now, but I'd prefer some kind of no-cost solution.

Someone mentioned in another thread, Where are Honolulu locals? I wonder what happened to the plan which said Alaska and Hawaii locals would be the first things on EchoStar 7?

invaliduser88
06-10-02, 10:09 AM
Hmmm...I thought they wanted to move the Alaska and Hawaii spot beams from E4 to E7 first (which they did). This was due to E4s partial failure.

I hadn't heard anything yet about locals for them.

Dear Charlie: when will the picture be as good as digital cable and when will you have all the channels that digital cable offers and when will you offer the neat video on demand that digital cable offers.

Charlie, hats off to the Dishplayer guys, except for a few minor bugs everything has ran very well since the update.

On the last tech chat it was mentioned that soon the Dishplayer will use the same guide service as the rest of the Dish Network receivers. When is this expected to happen?

Thanks!

Dear wolf,

When will your digital cable be all digital mpeg2 for all channels, and when will it have PCM digital audio and DolbyDigital5.1SS, and when will you have built in PVR, and when will it have 1080i High Definition, and when will you have special program packages like Super Stations and Multi Sports, and when will it have all the Intl Chs and Cricket and Rugby, and when will you be able to take with you in your RV or on vacation or on your boat or plane or cabin or beach house, and when will you have good service and lower prices like E*, and .....etc., etc., etc.

and why don't you go back down your hole?

:p

I'd second the idea of adding guide data for Vision TV. And, please, do correctly ID infomercials as such, when and where possible.
I think this channel is increasing my desire for a 501, as there are some programs worth PVRing IMO.
