View Full Version : Roughing it, Avis style - rent a Hummer, watch satellite TV
Avis offers DirecTV at Sky Harbor
Catch a flight, rent a Hummer, watch the game- or news- or
movies- or whatever.
This month, Avis will be offering customers in the Phoenix area
satellite video when the car rental company installs DirecTV into
some of its vehicles - specifically the Hummer H3. The service will
begin at the desert city's Sky Harbor International Airport.
Wire reports say specialized satellite TV antennas made from KVH
industries are already installed in nearly 5,000 rental vehicles with
DVD players. Avis said the company does not charge extra for
the DirecTV service in Hummer H3s or for other vehicles with
on-board DVD players.

Hummer... prime cause of sky high gas prices.
Hummer... prime cause of sky high gas prices.Bob, if you believe that then you are more clueless than I thought. Go rent a Hummer from Avis, drive out into the desert and watch Sex in the City. You'll feel much better. :D

All those single individuals driving big fuel hungry SUVs contribuite greatly to wasted gas driving up the costs and environmental damage for everyone. the US uses over half of all the energy consumed in the world while having just a fraction of the population.
meanwhile I am trying to make a living servicing machines and HAVE to be on the road.
news reports say gas will prmanetely going to 3 bucks a gallon....
SUVs are like heating your home with the front door permanetely propped open....
not brte at all:(
But Bob, all those soccer moms NEED an SUV that can drive up a muddy 65 degree hill to pick up little Johnny and Suzy from school. Don't they?
Going back on topic...current rates for an H3 from Avis at the Phoenix airport are just a few cents shy of $150/day, excluding insurances. I hope Total Choice Premier is included at that rate. I just rented an Impala for a week last week and the total bill was like $155.

I would actually rent one just to try it out. :)
Look at the increase in demand in the US and then compare it to the increase in demand frm China and India.
That's a far bigger impact when you have whole economies shifting gears. Sure, switching to smaller cars will save fuel but it doesn't mean nearly as much as our industrial energy appetite.
Yeah Bob, go live in a tent in the woods then. Hug those trees all you want, the rest of us will live as we please too. I think just to tick you off I will go start my car in the driveway and just let it run for a few hours.
:thats: That's too funny! :D

From what I have seen around here, more people would rent Hummers if they included a big, lighted makeup mirror. Most are driven by 16-year old blonde girls.
