My local Satellite Dealer, is having a deal where you can turn in your old receiver and receive a new D-10 receiver for 29.99. Do you guys think it's a good deal, I'll be trading in a Hughes SD-HBH receiver that I've had for about 11 months.

Personal feeling is keep the HUGHES, I like the quality in the Hughes far more than the quality in the RCA,Samsung or Phillips manufactured products. This is a biased opinion but it is mine. Also if you replace or add a receiver to your account you will need to renew your 1 yr. commitment to Directv.

If you talk to directv, I'm sure you could get a new receiver for nothing..... They want promise you a D10 but why would they send a hughes when they are promoting the new boxes.... I do have a D10 and Hughes and I really prefer the hughes over the D10.... I'm sure the bugs will be worked out of the D10 and it would be a better box when the bugs are fixed.... The weather feature is pretty good on the D10....

Dan, where do you live in SC and what is your avatar (what team?)?

I'm assuming you keep up with the Inferno?

If you are really interested in a D10, check out this link on ebay (12.99 for D10).... I bought my Hughes from this guy and had no problems..... This way you can keep the hughes you have......

Nope, I don't really like minor league hockey. I just love to watch the Canucks on the Center Ice Package, that's why I asked someone in the New Channels thread if Rogers Sportsnet Pacific could ever be added to an American Satellite.

That wasn't a good deal, because I called the Satellite Dealer to try and get the new D-10 receiver, and he acted like he never even told me about that deal, saying I never said anything about doing something like that?? Anyways, do you have to sign a one year agreement for one of these receivers if you buy it from somewhere like Best Buy or Circuit City?

Yes..... They will require 12 month commitment on all new equipment purchases.....

Or, for not a lot more, you could call D* and get a DTivo for $99 + $15 shipping or less. Very possibly, you may be able to get it for just the shipping, depending on your history with D*

In fact, if you wait until Aug 1, you can get the new R15 DVR (n.b. NOT TIVO) for free after rebate. Not officially announced by D*, but pretty much confirmed by at least one retailer (value electronics).

Is there something wrong with your current Hughes? Do you like the menus/functionality of the new D10 better? Bottom line, unless one of the above is true, there is no reason to get a different D* receiver just for the sake of getting a new reciever. Unless you have that disease called upgradeitis..
