Hello. I'm new to this incarnation of the DBS forums (I've been members of other/previous incarnations and drop off for awhile and then come back). I apologize if this has been discussed.

The behavior of the original DishPlayer when you hit the "Record" button while in in the guide was that it instantly created a timer for that event. If you hit it a second time, it created a recurring timer and displayed a "multiple red-dot" icon to indicate such. Now that I think of it, I can't recall how it set up the recurrence--maybe it was name-based, but at the very least I think it defaulted to a weekly timer. Hitting Record a third time would cancel the timer and the red dot would disappear. All this was done right in the guide--you weren't brought to a timer creation screen.

Does anyone find this behavior useful? I sure do miss it. With my 501 and now my 921, I hit the record button and it takes me to the timer creation screen, which incidentally is the same behavior you get if you hit Select. What I would prefer would be hitting the Record button would just immediately create the timer. Even if the additional recurring timer functionality weren't there (due to the absence of name based recording, for example), it still would be an improvement in my opinion. Those that needed to set additional options such as changing the minutes before/after or recording protection could hit Select for the full gamut of options.

I realize that asking for such a feature is probably futile, but I'm just wondering if it's just me that thinks this would be useful, or perhaps people just don't realize what they're missing?

Yea, that was convenient. It's been so long, I'd forgotten the Legacy Dishplayer did this.

We really wouldn't lose anything here. The "select" button could still go to the timer setup screen.

and if that program was not on in that time slot it would not record

That was from the DP's limited NBR so we wouldn't be seeing that benefit. Just the simpler method of creating the timer and a visual indication of whether it is a one-time or recurring event.
