View Full Version : Can't receive some transponders on 110

My brother has the following setup:
PVR508 connected to Dish 500 with Twin LNB using 75 ft of RG-6 cable. He has the AT120 package.

He reported the following:
The TPs below on 110 are the ones I have problems receiving. As you can see, 14 is on that list where I'm getting 0 signal. 2, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 17 = 0 signal, but good signal from 1, 5, 9, 11, 12.

I determined that he could ignore 2, 8, and 10, as they are spotbeams.
7, 13, and 17 appear to be HD only transponders.
However, 14 is very important because Jackson, MS locals are located there. :(

What should my brother check in determining why 7, 13, 14, and 17 don't have a signal on 110? Hopefully, it isn't the fault of the trees. He has trees off to the left of the dish (when looking from behind the dish), so there might be a tree issue involved.

7, 13 and 17 should show no signal on a 508. HD Tps do not show on a 508.

What signal level on Tps 11, 12 and 16?

John,

Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure if the 508 showed signal strength on the HD TPs.

Given this, I find it rather peculiar that the only TP not showing signal strength that should is his locals transponder.

I will check with my brother tonight on the other levels. I believe he told me that 11 and 12 were above 100 last night, but I don't know the exact level. Since he didn't list 16 with a high level it is probably in the 90s.

You also may want to check if he has a DP Twin LNB or a Legacy Twin LNB. There were some Legacy Twin LNBs that were bad but I am not sure which ones.

He has a Dish Pro Twin LNB.

John,

Here are the SS you requested:

11=103-104
12=102-103
16=93

John,

It is possible for Dish Network to program a receiver such that signal strength on an entire SD TP could be disabled like for the HD TPs?

Not likely. The way they do that would result in you not being able to select it. It would just skip to the next one.

Anybody out there know if the DISHPro twin has a second output? Might be worth trying if it does.

I guess it would have to have a second output.

The LNB has two outputs, so I will have him try the other output. He also informs me that he can get another LNB to try from a friend.

In checking the guide, the locals do show up in the 9270 range, as well as the double-digit mappings. They are not in red, so his receiver correctly shows them as still being subscribed to.

Since the other transponders are OK, I figure that the LNB is probably going bad.

Tuners have been known to fail on 1 transponder only.

I was afraid you might say that, John.

My brother has a different receiver that is currently not activated. Given that I am not familiar with how a deactivated receiver behaves, could he test signal strength on 110 TP14 from that receiver to see if the receiver is the problem?

I have never seen a receiver that would not allow signal strength testing.

Good! He has a 501 that he quit using when he got my 508. I'll have him plug it in and test TP14 from that receiver to see if we can eliminate the receiver as the problem.
