View Full Version : Adding a Receiver
I have a dish 500 system with a 301 in the bedroom and a 505 dvr in the family room.
I was given a spare 301 receiver, and was wanting to hook it up in the family room so that when the 505 was recording a program I could use the 301 to watch another program on that tv.
How is the best accomplished?
Can I unplug the current wire attached to the 505, run it through a switch, and produce an output for the 301 as well as the 505?
Or do I have to run a new wire for the 301 all the way outside to the satellite dish?
Thanks for any advice.

You'll need either a quad LNBF, or a SW rated multi switch and run both of your LNBF outputs into it. Either way you will need an additional line to the receiver.

Thanks for any advice. You have either a 501 or a 508 there is no 505. Seeing you have two Dish Pro receivers I am guessing you have a DP Twin LNBF mounted on the dish 500. You will need a DP-34 switch added to your system. You will also need a third line run from the location of the receiver out to the dish and connected to the DP-34. :)

Since those are the earliest DishPro models, kirt could very well have a legacy Twin or even 2 duals. Kirt, you need to tell us what LNB and switch configuration you have before we can tell you what to add or replace. Go to your receiver's installation menu, point dish, check switch, view summary screen and tell us what it says (500Twin, DP Twin, SW21, etc). You may also want to visually inspect the dish assembly. To prevent possible confusion, the difference between a Twin and 2 duals is shown at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/82 and explained in the link in my sig.
