I just finished replacing my 522 with a 942 however I have not been able to receive Sat pictures yet. Well sort of, I can get the NASA channel however just about everything else is gone. Most of it shows in the Guide and then I select it and end up with a blank screen.

I spent about 2 hours on the phone with tech support and they say something is preventing the 942 from authorizing. What does this mean? I'm a computer guys but I know very little about these machines.

It would be near impossible for someone to troubleshoot you with the limited amount of information you provided. I assume you have tried a hard reboot? (unplug the receiver for a full minute, then plug it back in) Wait 15 minutes and then try to use it.

Do you have a phone line plugged into your new 942?

Just a guess, but did you do a check switch? A new 942 will see only one satellite unless you do a check switch

Exactly what steps did you take to replace your 522 with a 942? In other words, did you do anything else except:

1. unplug 2 coax satellite lines from 522 and pull 522 out
2. plug 2 coax satellite lines into 942
3. power on 942 and run checkswitch
4. call dish to authorize

Sorry I didn't get too detailed but heres a better description.

Steps to replace the unit/my configuration.

Replacement:
1. Unplugged all equipment before anything was removed.
2. Removed the two Satellite feeds and plugged them into the 942
3. Removed the coax to the remote room and plugged it into the 942.
4. Used the HDMI output of the 942 to the HDMI input on the TV.
5. Added an optical line from the 942 to the TV.
5a. Added phone line which is hard wired to the entertainment center.
6. Turned on the power to the 942 and other equipment.
7. Unit started the checkswitch process and I called Dish
8. They need my r00 and s00 numbers so they stayed on the phone for the rest.
9. Added my zip code to search
10. They added Sat 110 to my unit I only had 119 before.
9. Unit downloading the program guide.
10. DishNet channel worked.
11. I hit the guide button and I don't get my lower (3,10,13,40, etc.) channels in the listing. Also channels that I do get in the guide I cant see like channel 120 HIST shows in the guide but when I try to access them it tells me it a subscription channel.

Troubleshooting:
Checked all cables.
I've tried the reboot via holding the power button and allowing the system to reboot.
I tried the checkswitch process.

I was wondering if there is something wrong with the unit's memory? Is it not saving something that it downloads that allows the unit to gain access to the program content.

Thanks for any ideas.

What does your checkswitch matrix read?

Are you sure that the CSR got your receiver and smart card numbers correctly? Did you ask him (or her) to read them back to you? Sounds to me like the box simply hasn't been authorized yet.

That's what it sounds like to me as well, and also, to access your local channels in <100 channel range, you need to turn that on from the Local Channels (Menu-6-9) screen, Sat Locals option.
