Gonna hook up my over the air this week and was wondering on the inside do I want to use the diplexer before the signal goes into the switch or at each television where I may want to use the signal. Im running a sw64 with dish 500 119 and 110 and also a dish 300 for 61.5 Going to 3 locations 2 for the 921 and one to a 6000 Thanks

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. You need diplexors at both ends. One to mix the signals together, and another one to unmix them. I would put the first one after the switch on each line that is going to be near an OTA tuner (so you probably don't need one on both the 921 lines). The another one before it goes into the STB.

DON'T USE DIPLEXORS at all, if possible. You would be MUCH better off running seperate lines. I know that's a pain in the ass, but the signal degrades significantly!!

For an Off Air antenna I would very much agree with lionsrule, run seperate lines it will make a significant difference. But barring that.

Take a line from each TV location insert a diplexer with the single port going to the wall, and the dual ports hooked up one to Satellite feed, and one to Antenna in feed. On the outside (or attic as applicable) put the diplexer with the single port going towards the receiver, the dual side going one to the switch, and the other to your antenna splitter.

Hope this helps!

eclipsetrb: I think you are supposing that the switch passes the OTA signal to all outputs. AFAIK, it does not pass OTA so you need a diplexor on at least one line to each receiver. If you send all to a central place, as I do, then diplex one line, preferably a non-dual tuner. Then you can amplify, split, and send them on the way to the receivers or TVs directly or with diplexor pairs. You lose a couple of dB for each diplexor pair or about that many points on your signal strength.

Ok so to make sure i got this straight here are my choices

Choice #1 SAT ANT
\ /
Diplex Combines at roof
|
Diplex Splits in basement
/ \
Sat to switch Ant sig to splitter
Then one set of both sat cables and Ant Signals to both receivers

Choice #2 SAT ANT
\ /
Diplex Combines at roof
|
Diplex Splits in basement
/ \
Sat to switch Ant sig to splitter
\ /
Diplex Combines Sat and Ant
One Cable (two sat for my 921 one combined signal one without) for each receiver then another diplexer at receiver splits signals this leading to possible significant loss in signal from overuse of diplexers

Choice #3 SAT ANT
| |
Run cable seperatly for sat and ant to basement
Sat to switch Ant sig to splitter
\ /
Diplex Combines Sat and Ant
One Cable (two sat for my 921 one combined signal one without) for each receiver then another diplexer at receiver splits signals.

Choise #4 Run cables seperatly to each receiver from ant and sat no use of diplexers Lots of work since most of my cables are behind drywal and my house needs more holes in the walls like i need holes in my head

Did I miss anything? any other suggestions. And by the way you were correct in what I was wondering was would the switch be doing any thing in spliting the signal for me guess not.

Were I doing it with Legacy (SW64) I would put the switch at the dishes. Diplex the antenna on any leg but out1=power inserter. You would have 3 output cables + 1 for OTA, if feasible. Putting it inside would require 6 + 1 cables.

Were I doing it with DP (and DP->Legacy adapter for 6000) then I would put switch inside (with lightning block outside) so that I would have 3 LNB cables + 1 for OTA. Doing it outside would require one more "long" cable if you add another tuner.
Just my thoughts, (took me that long to go around the DBS boards, whew.)

I agree that you should run a separate line from the OTA antenna to the sat receiver. I initially had mine running through a diplexer and did not get good reception at all. Once i ran the separate line, my reception was crystal clear.

good luck :)

Ok so I may have come up with a plan for running a cable to each receiver from the OTA receiver #1 the 6000 its easy its in the basement so no probs the second receiver the 921 I currently already have the two cables going to it (install was done before most of the drywall went up) so I was thinking if I use the DP + Seperator and run both sat signals on one cable that frees the other cable for the OTA. Now the catch, correct me if im wrong but the seperator only works with the DP 44 switch and wont work with the legacy 64 switch. So anybody out there know how to get one for cheap? Any other suggestions.

Well if you live in a must carry market add the Voom channels for the $100 and $5 a month they will 9 times out of 10 use a DPP 44 switch. If not, I believe MSRP is $149, and theres some guy that might take your 64 for some trade in, I'm sure someone will post it the link as I do not remember.
