View Full Version : Two Anomalies I experienced with 216

Last night:

1.) The DVR screen froze on top of the picture. It would not let me view a recording in progress. The only way to brek out of the screen was by hitting the EPG button. For awhile I could only see the EPG or the DVR screen. I turned the unit off from the remote (not a reboot - I did not want to lose the recording in progress). Eventually I was able to get rid of the DVR screen (actually it was just the green backdrop to the DVR screen that had been frozen).

2.)The "Menu" button was not functioning while a recording was in progress. While recording a satellite-delivered program I tried to go into the menu. The menu would not pop up until after the recording was over.

Anyone else seen either of these anomalies with 216?

Not exactly, but I have seen the SD/HD and *Format lockups occur during an HD recording, and then return to normal functionality after the recording completed. BTW, my recordings are now always timer initiated because (for me) manual (quick) records lead to EOP run-bys (recording that just keeps on going) more than 50% of the time.

I've noticed that since L216, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds before the command takes effect with the menu and EPG. I haven't seen this since L211.

Michael P: I have seen the DVR overlay lock up. That has always gone away with a power off/on without a reset, cross fingers. Never saw the menu wait problem.

I have often had a dark screen overlay (I can see around it on the edges) usually when I hit Info and cancel too quickly. This again usually clears with a power off/on. That is a pain when the program is only in the buffer because at that time the other buttons including Rew and Rec are frozen and I will need a reboot but can't because of a recording in progress.

I had a buffer I tried to capture by backup and live record, but then could not shut it down without stopping the program. Next day I had 11 hours, wiping out 8 hours of old recordings. Had I known that would have happened, I would have protected everything as those protected did survive.

I have experienced this problem before L216 where receiver does not respond to the remote unless you soft reboot or just do not play with the remote for a while. I have had this problem since I received the 921 and they have sent me a new remote, which had the same problem. The intersting thing is that when I experience the freeze, I can use my Pronto remote and It works even when the PVR remote is frozen.

Interesting. If the Pronto is an IR remote, then the "lock-ups" may be related to the RF remote receiver on the 921.
