View Full Version : New 942 User - Tuner and Screensaver Questions

I just upgraded from two DishPlayer 7100 to the 942 and have a few questions:

The DishPlayer would display a screensaver when any on screen display(OSD) graphics was displayed for more than a few minutes. If I was in a menu or paused the bouncing dish network logo would appear after a few minutes. I have a rear projection HDTV and I am concerned about burn-in if I leave an OSD screen displayed for too long. Does the 942 have this feature? With the 942 being a HD receiver I would think it would be a #1 priority for Dish Network.

Second question is how to use the tuners properly. I use the 942 in dual mode attached to 2 TV's. How can I record on all 3 tuners from the same TV? If I am at TV1 I can only record using tuner 1 OR tuner 2 and the OTA tuner. If I am at TV2 I can only record on tuner 1 OR tuner 2. How can I assign all 3 tuners to record programs at the same time from TV1 or both dish tuners on TV2?

The 942 does not yet have a screensaver feature.

The only way you can record on all 3 tuners at one time from one television is to run your 942 in Single User Mode.

The 942 will kick you out of the guide or dvr screen after a few minutes like the 510 right? So if that is true its kind of a screensaver if you will.

Mark when you say "not yet", does that mean it is coming in a future release?

I agree, I would love to see this. It would be nice if a paused event went automatically to the "screensaver" after a few mins.

Yes, the 942 will kick you out of the guide after a few minutes of inactivity. And, I said not yet because I've heard that a screen saver is a possible future addition. Not that it will definitely show up, but it's a possibility.

I hope they add a screensaver soon. I know I have left my dishplayer on pause for several hours many times before and I would hate to do that even once with the 942.

All this time I have worried about video games burning scores or health meters into my tv. Now I have to fear the 942's pause screen. I am afraid this $860 receiver may cost me a $3000 TV.

Do any other dish models besides the dishplayer have a screensaver when paused?

The 721. None others (that I know of).

Mark, perhaps I'm not understanding something here, but the 721 has a screensaver when paused. It activates after approximately 20 minutes.

Ah, I take it back then. I wasn't aware the 721 had a Pause screensaver. I'll edit my response.
