Except for the "C" sat., which only displays even 18v, these test's show if
your receiver is getting the Sat's correctly. The receiver needs to "switch"
between the "odd" transponders (13v) and the "even" transponders (18v) in
order to display the correct channel. If you receive a message "searching for
Sat. signal" on any of these test channels, then you are having a problem with receiving that particular satellite.

Funny thing is when we were having a problem with one of our receivers (picture freezing and pixelating) the test channels showed that everything was OK.

I think they are there for when people call for technical assistance. It is probably easier to tell people to turn to channel 49x, rather than talk them through the procedure for doing a signal test which would be different on each receiver type/brand.

That tells you it wasnt your dish alignement, and all lnbs are working correctly. If it was just one reciever, then you know that as well. ALso points suspiciously to a bad reciever...

They help the CSR see if you have the correct equipment to receive locals and spanish/international programming. If you get a SFSS, then you need an upgrade, anything else means you can get those channels without having to get an equipment upgrade.
