View Full Version : Sky Angel install for friend.
In an hour, I have to do a SA install for a friend. Line of sight is clear, elevation 15degrees. Can the DISH (it's a 500) be aimed that low? If not, any advice for how I could get this signal?
Yes, I've gotten a Dish 500 antenna to go as low as 10°, but the skew has to be 90° to go that low.
It's installed and working, without much tweaking, we got a signal about 75, I know 85 is possible (I had it there but couldn't get it back). The friend is a youth pastor, he's setting it up to get the music stations at the church. We spent forever trying to get a signal at all. It seems like aiming is hyper-sensitive (even more so than normal). Plus, even mounting the dish on a concrete wall and keeping it solid wasn't fun:)
FYI, here in sunny So. CA the El for 61.5 is only slightly higher (19). The dish looks like it's aimed slightly below horizontal. We get a signal of 85.
Yeah, I'm sure with tweaking it could have gotten even higher, but at least on 110 and 119 rain fade is almost never a problem here (even in very heavy storms I only lose about 5-10 points on 110 and 119, if SA even behaves twice as bad there's enough for a lock). And it's only going to be used about 2 hours a week anyways:)
