I've been a dish member for more than 5 years, and now I am ready to move to HD. At first I thought getting the 942 would be the answer, but there are still some things that I am not sure about.

This is what I want to accomplish/receive in my HD programming:

HBO HD
CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and WB in HD
Be able to record (PVR) HD shows

My initial plan was to get the 942, but Tony's insightful advice (http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=410217&postcount=9) :D told me I needed an outdoor antenna so I can get HD local channels. After talking to a dish rep and reading Mark's 942 Review (http://http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=39891), now I find out that
The DVR-942 is not capable of decoding digital cable or high definition cable signals.
For those who have the 942, how do you get the local HD other than CBS? How do you timeshift them?

From Off-Air, not from cable. That's what you need the antenna for. :) You attach the antenna to the 942, scan for local digital channels, and you'll be set. Recording and timeshifting off-air channels is exactly the same as recording and timeshifting satellite channels.

Even HD Locals? I read from your review that it can support "digital signals" but not HD signals... or are they one and the same?

Yes, even HD locals. The 942 fully supports digital OTA signals from antenna. It does not support digital or HD CABLE signals. They are very different.
