I hope for a simple answer to a simple question. I'm having some roof work completed and must move my antennas away from the surface they are now attached to by about 4 inches. They will be mounted on a 4 inch standoff but basically in the same location just 4 inches further away fronm the house surface. Is there anything I need to do to ensure I maintain the proper reception and is there an alignment procedure in case I don't have the best reception?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Wally1

Make sure the mast is remounted perfectly level, grab your manual and follow the directions to a T, if you do not have your manual, you can download one from
www.dishnetwork.com

Hope this helps

IF the angle of the roof where the dish is now matches the angle where you want to move it, you shouldn't have to do much at all. See the direction the dish is pointing (landmarks are handy), then move it to the new spot. If all goes well, you're done. If not, slowly move the dish left-right to find the best signal strength.

How can one monitor the signal strength ?

if you dont have a friend to watch the signal strength on the tv some people use baby monitors to listen to the tone signal for when it locks on. i used a cordless phone that had a intercom on the base station.

You really need to keep it simple for me because I have no idea where to look to monitor the signal strength. I would assume there is a procedure for this?. Is this documentedand where can it be found anywhere?

Thanks.....

Aligning a superdish is hard enough with the proper equipment, I cant imagine trying to do it by the point dish screen, there is too mcuh delay between moving the dish and the signal strength bar graph responding. Do yourself a favor, call a local dealer. They will charge you to do it, but you will be much happier with the results.

for the signal strength screen hit Menu>6>1>1 on the remote.

My opinion: Again IF the dish worked fine in its old location and the roof angle is the same, then at least half the work is already done for you. Keep the mounting foot at the same angle, and the mast will be plumb. If the mast is plumb, then the elevation's right. If it's a Dish 500, the skew's already set right, too.

In my experience, the part that's hardest to keep perfect in this kind of move is the pointing direction (azimuth). For that, it's simple to move the dish a little to the left, wait five seconds, check the signal quality, then repeat (or go back to the right if needed). When you reach a spot where moving in either direction makes the signal go down, you've found the best spot.

AND if you give that a serious effort and you still can't make heads or tails of it, THEN you can call that dealer or Dish.
