I need some help, I am trying to hook up my toshiba dvd recorder to this satelitte, so I can make use of the built in hard drive, but I can not seem to find the correct set top box code for the 811 to input to the settings menu of the recoder. I am suppose to be able to see the guide through this, but nothing is working. Any help on the correct code for an 811 would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks

I imagine your speaking of the remote code for the Toshiba to control the 811? What model Toshiba is it? In your Toshiba user manual look under Dish Network or Echostar for remote codes. I have seen some manufacturers learn Echostar device codes under differing remote address codes as well. Most are on address 1, however I have seen 2, 3, and 6 used as well. Best thing to do would be to consult Toshiba's support area and see if they list any remote codes for Echostar devices. And I do not believe you will get an independent guide on the Toshiba, but you should be able to activate the 811's guide provided you can find a code that works with the 811's IR blaster.

I don't really need to be able to use the toshiba remote to control the 811, but the way i have it set up is hooked up from the outputs of one to the inputs of the other like the book says, however I have to go into the initial setup and select time and date, cbox or dbs, i have dbs, and the 3 digit code of the set top box (811). I want to be able to use the timers on the toshiba to record programs off the 811, but I can't seem to find the correct guide so it can find the channels. To make matters even worse, I was able the way I had it connected to record a program that i was watching, just couldn't use the timer function, but now for some reason, i can only get sound through the recorder, and no video, I can get the guide, and the info from the show, but no video. I am lost now! Any other Ideas? The codes in the toshiba book for echostar DSS are 092, and 100, but none of these seem to work

Ken, did the Toshiba come with a hard wried IR blaster that you would stick to the front of the 811, or is it just one of those hi output IR Blasters that rely on a reflection from an opposing surface? If it is the latter, I'd try the codes again and stick a mirror in front of the IR port on the DVD recorder so you can better guarnatee IR reflection to the 811.

As far as sound and no picture, Your going to have to recheck your connections. So make sure a Composite audio pair, or toslink, and a video composite or S-video connection are running to your DVD recorders input. The the outputs of the recorder should be going to your TV, not back to the 811. There is a way to loop it back using 1 set of the 811's inputs, but just for troubleshooting sake lets bypass that for the moment and keep it simple.
